Anchor mounting/securing

The anchor on my boat is currently just sitting in the chain locker.
What is a good method of securing the anchor on the hull or deck?

If you have a roller, most people just pull it snug against the roller and call it good. I keep the chain loose on the windlass and have a line from the samson post (or deck cleat) keeping the anchor snugged up. You can add bungy cords if you're going into some real crazy stuff.

What kind of anchor do you have? If you don't have a roller danforth style anchors can be mounted on a stanchion or rail.

they make a bow roller that is bolt-on.
they also make a lock pin.
i have the lock pin on my powerboat, one of the best upgrades i made. no more rope to hold the anchor!

I keep my primary anchor's chain on my windlass gypsy with the lock engaged as well as a line from the "trip" position on the anchor tied down. My secondary anchor has a lock pin at the chain attachment to the stock; a tie down line at the middle of the stock; and two lines securing the fluke. I do this for coastal cruising. If I were taking some distance offshore, I'd probably stow them below. I have a friend that had a wildly out of control anchor flying about on his bow half way to Bermuda that made an ugly mess. You can't just step up an safely tame an anchor once it's snapping about!

That was a joke right? Back into the locker for the "real crazy stuff" might more prudent.

At/on the bow is usually best.

My anchor wont't in any type of locker. The best I can do is strap it down on the foredeck to the bowsprit (the portion that's on the deck). And sure, I'll use some big bungies to help cinch it down to the spar. Nothing wrong with that.

Unless Im anchoring most everynight, I keep my anchor stowed,either in a anchor locker, tied down well! or on deck in a secure mount. I hate to go to sea with a anchor on the bow! Just my personal choice, but ive never had one come loose that way! and Ive seen the damage they can do when they come unlashed when they are on the bow or bowspirt! just an old guys fearful way of doing things LOL

I've seen some nice plastic corner brackets that screw to the deck for keeping Danforth style anchors in place. Most of the boats that I see carrying plow or claw anchors have them hanging at the bow, usually on a roller. Many are lashed in place with a short line. Some boats have small cleats installed to make this a faster operation.
