Extending backstay adjuster

See pic. The block/tackle cam cleat attaches directly to fitting at deck level making it almost impossible to release the line when it is loaded. I need to raise it up 4 to 6". This is on a Hanse 34. I can ask someone to make up a swage fitting of some wire into 2 eyeloops, or I guess I can just purchase a piece of dyneema that has 2 open ends? Not sure about any chafe factor using dyneema?

If using the dyneema, could someone let me know what diameter I need, and reputable place to purchase it. (Don't suggest I make this myself, that is not happening).

Re: Extending backstay adjuster

Two long D shackles should be all you'd need.

Re: Extending backstay adjuster

thanks.

I figured something like this would be much less expensive

Just need the right size of line.

Yes, that is what you want. Better than shackle to shackle. Size it to be comparable to the lower current shackle strength. I'd (probably) go for same rating of shackle to line diameter and use the basket hitch (2:1) as additional safety factor.

Re: Extending backstay adjuster

Can you just turn the adjuster up side down, placing the cam cleat at the top of the tackle?
