Bird devices
Yes, I ran a search.
What is the most effective device for keeping birds off my radome? Spikes?
Please advise.

Re: Bird devices
I used SS spikes (about 1/8" diameter) and 4 & 6 inches long on top of the radome. I stuck them through some plywood and glued (silicone) the plywood to the radome.
It worked :thumb"

Re: Bird devices
The plastic spikes work pretty well, as does a fishing line (100#test) just above a triatic stay... as for the owl, I tried that and found a seagull sitting on it... good luck...

Re: Bird devices
IME, hawks, owls and other BSB (big scary birds ) work very well for the first couple of hours after deployment. After that, their effectiveness drops off rapidly.
A day or so later, the problem birds know that BSB is harmless and just ignore them.
Edit:
I've seen better results using a BSP (big scary person)

Rock salt... They don't like it. Or you can wash your neighbors boat and they will go over there.

Re: Bird devices
I've said it before, monofilament line will deter them. My theory always was that they wanted to be able to make a quick getaway, and getting their feet or wings fouled in mono just once would keep them away for good.
This week I actually saw that theory in action. I wish I had a video of it. A few seagulls on a moored sailboat decided to take off as we passed by. The two higher up made it. The one starting from a lower perch clipped one of the lifelines with its feet and did a face-plant right into the water. It was hilarious. I bet that bird never takes that perch again!

Re: Bird devices
here in farm country, a very effective and cheap method of keeping birds from perching and building nests in the doors, windows, ledges, etc on the outbuildings is a caulk like material, tangletrap bird repellant. It's very effective, and cheap.

Still dealing with adjusters, lawyers, fire and explosion inspectors, etc etc. Three different insurance companies and a major international corporation involved in this claim, it's complex. I doubt anything will happen until a court date. Meanwhile, we're screwed.
But let's not hijack this bird thread to discuss that...
