You can bet we are all totally psyched about your first long solo. Well done and tip a few on me. I'll pay you back on lap 2...

Just don't start talking to hallucinations on those lonely night watches...

Glad to hear Nic is settling in well.

Good Luck

I just saw this thread as I have been away for a while.

Mark,
I have followed your adventures since you set off. I chartered your boat the year before you bought her in St. Martin. I just recently purchased a 2001 Beneteau 473 to eventually retire on and cruise. When all the "experts" tell me. "You can't do blue water on a Beneteau", I point to you and Nic. I wish you the best and hope to see you continue to post here.

Mark - great to hear you're both OK. If you see Gjalt and Corinne while you're there, give them my love!

When does hurricane season pass?

I like that 473!
I went on a 2 cabin version when I was in Tonga and the lazarette it a huge one, walk through from the galley. Talk about storage!
The 473 will be a great boat for you. I think its the perfect size for this job and like that, and in the new range, the 46.

I like nov 30 I got nailed in a nasty mid november TS years back. It didn't matter if it was called a huricane or not at the time we saw winds exceed 80 mph and it blew us for several days massive confused seas. I would go later rather then early I think I read the water is warmer this year too. That would lean tword a later run as well Then again whats a few weeks.

So it looks like it'll be a long wait in the Canaries, then! What's the entertainment like there? Or are you sitting on your boat turning into one of those surly old men who growls at anyone have fun...???

Darn - this is a (not so) quick reply, so I can't add a smiley to show my intent is in jest.... Talking of which, I haven't seen the 'rude' thread for a while!
