Re: The GGR race, discussion and news

I was feeling a bit lonely in finding that this race was madness and that these boats, this size, are not safe to sail on the Austral ocean on big latitudes.

I thought that from the beginning but now, with only 7 of the 18 boats still racing and with several dismasted, capsized and rolled, with only luck preventing tragic consequences, more have come to the same conclusion.

The article was posted by the biggest Italian sail magazine (translated):

..."The skippers then are at the mercy of the weather depressions with boats too slow to be able to position themselves correctly in the fronts that invest them..... At the beginning we were enthusiastic too, but we had to change our minds .

But why is this happening? Is it really only the old boats to blame? Or, addicted to new technologies, we are no longer able to navigate as it once was, like the real sailors Loick Peyron talks about in this interview ? But there is also a third hypothesis: that the Golden Globe was already a folly in 1968. And in this case, replicating it with the same rules fifty years later, would not it be even crazier?"
