Thinking about skipping down to the Keys for about 10 days in August for some snorkeling fun. Too hot? Too murky? Not enough wind?

Ive been to Boot Key and Dry Tortugas in the Spring and the weather was pretty nice.

What was your experience?

It will be HOT, I left there last month and it was hot then, hotter now I am sure.
If you have a way to deal with the heat, then I guess you'll be OK.
Water temp in the Northern Gulf is approaching 90F, which has me worried, I don't remember it ever being that hot, I assume it is hot down there too?

Hot and humid, for sure. Probably a little breeze most of the time, though whether it will be enough to sail is a different matter. Get into the backwater areas and it will also be BUGGY!

I certainly wouldn't pick August as the best time to visit The Keys.

Very hot and muggy, lots of algae and last year alot of jellyfish. Hope your ac is in top notch form, it's going to get a workout. Otherwise the keys are alot of fun.

It will be hot and not much wind. But, who cares? It's the Keys! Go and have fun. Think cooling thoughts.

Thanks for the replies. I was wondering about the algae issue down there and if its affecting the water clarity.

I've lived in FL all my life so I'm used to some heat, but I would definitely be bringing the Honda 2000 and a window shaker for the hottest evenings.

The algae problem is not in the keys, nor in any part of the Gulf. It's an Okeechobee and Atlantic problem

As everyone else has said it will be hot. I have never experienced any algae. Have fun and steer clear of all the lobster traps!

Hotter than hell.... if it gets any hotter maybe you should go to Saudi Arabia to cool down...

No wind but the water is Bahamian quality offshore.... All that heat could create a Category 6 hurricane.... maybe there is something to this global warming.... Wish I was sailing in Maine right now....

We're starting to see a little of the algae problem in the Cape Coral area (just across the river from Ft. Myers), but is not too bad yet. Nothing compared to the east coast. Mostly the water is getting a really nasty brown color. We had a really hard rain a couple of days ago and it seemed to wash everything out to the Gulf.

I've had my boat at stock island since June. It's hot. Little wind. Snorkeling off western sambo reef was clear and decent. Lots of little Jellys but not the stinging size.
Have fun it's worth it.

Naw, its 78 degrees right now on the coast. Likely will hit mid 80s by mid afternoon. Plus the dew point is in the 60s. Inland its about 15 degrees hotter and way more humid. Tons of fog offshore.
