Not to say that a sexist attitude does not also exist - but pretty much the same attitude for a fella walking into a lingerie dept . It could be that I am a designer of female undergarments , or at least be a frequent purchaser .....but the odds are I am not , and will be buying on colour and delusions and therefore getting treated like I am clueless is IMO fair enuf.........of course for commercial reasons that should also be done politely and with tact.

Women who know one end of something with mechanical parts from another are in a minority - that is actually the same as men , but men more likely to at least have a vague idea of the topic (even if actually still clueless ).

I recall from a former life how various female bosses would get teed off when a client phoned me and said they had left a message earlier with my secretary ......of course it was only funny when I repeated what the Client had just said when on the phone and the female boss is in earshot ("Yes, I got the message you left with my secretary?" )..........the flip side when covering phones was that women could more easily not get sucked into helping the caller rather than simply taking a message. Life many things, Sexism is not all bad.

When my parents owned our boating business, she used to handle all the ordering and phone calls and such and all the time had to get either myself or my dad to call back because of the derogatory comments she received because of her gender.

I guess I'm one of those white guys, can't help it though it was a birth thing. I've been in the Marine business for a long time which makes me an old white guy, can't slow down the calender. No doubt the marine industry is a good ol boy thing. But us old white guys aren't stupid, we know the money is just as green from women as it is from men and that's pretty much the main reason we get up and go to work. But a few observations from an old white guy. If you woman come in with a chip on your shoulder we'll see it right away and treat you differently. If you come in with a superior attitude we will treat you differently right away. If you come in with an "I don't let anyone take advantage of me Pal" attitude right off the bat you will be treated differently. Most of this treatment will probably not sit well with you. But here's a little secret, if you're a man and you come off with any of these same attitudes you will get the same treatment. As the marine industry is mostly dominated by men it is also mostly patronized by men. Believe me, the attitude is evenly handed out. Is there still sexism out there? You bet. In fact where I live and work, when Pam Wall walks into a marine related business she gets treated and respected a whole lot more than most men here ever will and not because her well respected and hard earned sailing skills and abilities are better than most men, but because of her personality. Again your money is as green as any mans, so male, female, Mars, or Venus, if you come across an old white guy that treats you badly, well, there are far more old white guys out there that would love to have your business.

It is truly interesting how, every time a discussion on some form of sexism is raised in the ostensibly "Women Afloat" fora....

...the thread will become dominated by male opinion, usually telling the OP how sexism doesn't really exist...

...although generally it would appear that the majority (of the minority) female opinion is that sexism does indeed exist

i think i may be sexist. i find women many more times more attractive then men, and the only man i find attractive is myself! hmmmm. guess i need sensitivity training.

lol i know as much about epoxy and laying up glass for a hull than most males...lol
i learned early that sexism is not all bad---a lady is able to gain if this is played correctly---ex---me n a friend--female---34dd, 23, 34---were in bathing suits and had to go to a prop shop for a prop and pricing--at the yard her boat was hauled, the prop was to be 385 usd....we went to the prop shop itself and ate the men's food, drank their beer, and walked out with a prop perfectly pitched and ready to use in her 32 challenger for exactly 185 usd... see--sexism works for us....use it while you can and before the males learn it is in our favor for them to act like ninnies..rodlmao
