New sailor on the Bay Of Quinte

Hello

New sailor here. The Bay of Quinte will be my cruising area.

I bought a boat last fall, just waiting for the spring to put her in.

Lots to learn!

Re: New sailor on the Bay Of Quinte

Greetings! I've logged many miles sailing "The Bay" in various floating and some not-so-floating craft. Wonderful part of the country and excellent sailing most all the way around "The County" and up into the 1000 islands. You will love it! Cheers!!

Re: New sailor on the Bay Of Quinte

I spent many hours paddling Quinte when I was youngster but Muscote was a little farther then I went but I always thought it looked like an interesting bay.

I love the photos of your boat. It looks a little big to haul with the mini. Is it trailer-able? How do you haul out? There isn"t a marina there is there?

Hi, thanks

Muscote Bay is small and shallow, but it's home. There is a marina not far, on the other side of Big Island, but I plan to haul her out onto my boat ramp. lol, last out first in! The spring will be my first time getting her in the water (purchased this fall), so I don't know for sure how easy that will be.

What mini? Anyways, she's listed at 5 tonnes, so not really easily trailerable, at least with my vehicles. With her shallow draft so she can be put on a normal boat trailer. Just needs to be heavy duty.

I thought I saw a Mini Morris in one of the photos?

Nice to be able to do your own haul out. She doesn't have much keel (says the guy with 6'7" under him); what is the story behind the boat? Who designed her?

Yeah, you don't need much keel when you have leeboards. She drafts about 2.5', I guess I'll see exactly in the spring.

It would be hard to say who designed her as she is based on a traditional type that has been around for over 100 years. Originally wood fishing vessels that evolved into steel yachts.

She is about 27', 9' and a bit wide double ender. As I mentioned, steel with a bit of a flat bottom (1.25" thick plate!). She is gaff rigged and about 5 tonnes.

She was built in 1981, and brought to Canada in 1984 by the people from which I bought her.
