Re: Flying Whale

A month ago in the Santa Barbara Channel I saw one do it there too. It definitely had at least a foot of air under its entire length... but I have no footage to prove it!

Awesome!

The first I have seen of a whale completely leaving the water! WOW!

Thanks for sharing the link.

Brings back a fond memory.
________

My memory:
While I was on a sailboat, sailing off the coast of Newfoundland (not on a whale watching tour), I saw a Humpback whale breach 10 times in a row in a few minutes! It was amazing to see. I had never seen a single whale breach so many times in a row.

Unfortunately, I did not have a video camera on me.
But, I saw it and it was unforgettable.

Re: Flying Whale

Steady,

Ain't Newfoundland great! We've been watching some humpbacks feeding on Caplin off the point from our deck. We can routinely hear them blow. Folks like to go out and just be near them. Hearing a rumor someone saw a pair of blues up then at. I think I saw one once, huuuuge!

Re: Flying Whale

I've seen humpbacks breach off the west end of Catalina Island, California. Even from a mile away it was quite spectacular.

Re: Flying Whale

California coast from SF to Catalina has had an embarrassment of riches when it comes to cetaceans lately. Just wonderful.

Not last weekend. Got completely skunked on sealife. 9 hour sail from Catalina to Dana: no whales, no dolphin, no mola-mola, nothing.

But it's usually pretty good.
