NOAA Drones Busting Boaters

Read an article today that drones used by NOAA over Dry Tortugas to map corals, track migrating birds and locate turtles are also being used for enforcement. Two busts already. One an unpermitted dive in North ecological reserve. The second a sailing vessel illegally fishing in South Ecological reserve.
Florida Senate voted afterwards to restrict drones for law enforcement. Wonder if big brother agreed too?

Re: NOAA Drones Busting Boaters

So if all those drones and balloons are really out there, why couldn't they find a trimaran headed to Cuba from 30 miles north of Key West??

Somehow, I'm Ok with this particular use of drones.

Search & rescue would also be a good use of drones.

I'm ok if they use them for illegal fishing, search and rescue, polluting, moving hard drugs & human trafficking. But catching an unpermitted dive doesn't sound like something drones should be used for.

Are we talking air drones or water drones?

Eff 'em. If they're out there breaking the law, they deserve to be busted.

Nothing a " belt" from my deer gun wouldn't fix, it would never know what hit it. I have declared a 20 foot column of air over my boat as" controlled" airspace. !!!!

I expect they were looking for those bigger fish, and the unauthorized dive was just bycatch.
