Maine Sail, that is a nice example of a machine crimp, Ive had the pleasure of using such a machine many times and for those battery crimps there is no subsitute. Have you any examples of 10 guage or smaller with non powered hand crimpers?

I can cut one open tomorrow. For now here's a video of my AMP crimper for 10-12 GA terminals holding 82 pounds more than the Mil Spec requires.

Factually wrong , proper crimps form a gas tight connection, moisture may wick between the conductors but not between the crimp mating faces and the associated conductors

The one I use for Yellow 10-12 GA terminals is the AMP 59239-4:


For red & blue I use the AMP T-Head Certicrimp tool #59250:

If you search you can often buy them used and re-calibrated by authorized re-calibraters for a lot less money than new. Make sure you are buying a properly re-calibrated too though not jsut "used"... My buddy works for Lear Jet and got me my tools, at his cost, from a re-calibrator.

It seems aircraft tools are the ones to buy. I purchased a 37º tube flaring kit from aircraft supplier that is excellent for HP jobs.

Yeh, the price does tend to make for a gagging reflex. Ouch. However, I just asked the seller of those surplus ones about them being recalibrated. If not, I wonder how much it would cost to have that done. I'll have to check into that.
