+1. I find its shelf life is most critical after opening, even though it might not appear to be solidified.
Same for Sikaflex. I like their included expiry date, but no matter what I avoid using it past 2 weeks after opening(every tube gets dated when opened). An issue with stuff that was open for 6 weeks that required redoing later.

I've heard that but never tried it. It makes sense as 5200 is moisture cured and the humidity in the freezer must be near zero.

We can confirm that it lasts many months after opening and when kept in a zip loc bag in the fridge.

A really good use for it is makeing coveralls last almost forever!! I have a pair Ive used for yrs! yall know for those jobs that are way to dirty to do without them !! And of course useing 5200 is one of those jobs!! Well these coveralls are covered with spots of 5200 and this of course really holds them together!! And makes them slippery as heck!! and almosr water proof!! So ya see 5200 has many really good uses! many of which you might have not thought of! Like it's super for holding down those corners of counter tops when the come up! It will even hold pictures on the bulkheads without nails or screws!! LOL sorta kidding but not all the way !! I love 5200, and the Idea of nameing a boat after it really excites me !!( but then im old and it's easy to excite me !!)

Yeah, 3M doesn't play like that. I get more special t-shirts and hats than you can shake a stick at from reps from companies like Interlux, Sea Hawk, Fiberlay, King Starboard, Mirka, etc. etc. I'm like a walking billboard in the boatyard. Never gotten a single thing from 3M. Ever.

I worked with 3M developing a product (life science division) and they gave me a big box of stuff as a gift - vinylester repair/fairing compounds, long boards with lots of stick on sand paper, several giant rolls of their acoustic insulation, a sampler case of caulking compounds, etc.

The guys I worked with DID see my boat, so maybe that had something to do with it...

Funny thing about that acoustic insulation - I asked them for a sample because I was thinking of a project for it and I wanted a 12" piece to look at. They called the factory and told them to send me a sample. The factory sent me a UPS truck full of boxes containing rolls of end of production runs! Filled my garage. Seems a "sample" to the commercial people who use this stuff means a much different thing than it does to me.

Oh, we get free product samples from them all the time. That's not really the same thing though.


Interlux does best in this department, because they actually have a sense of humor. You guys would fall over laughing if you saw my "Official Bottom Inspector" t-shirt!

It's LD50 is about 3g/kg, about 8 times higher than methanol. It's a bit lower than toluene at 6g/kg, but I find it a really good sign for long term toxicity that acetone is commonly present in the body anyway.

This is the most entertaining thread I have read I think... I say this now before I have to removing all the 5200 Acetone is quite present in bananas to i think... Normal product in our body... but our lungs don't like it...

5 gallons!?? oh dear gawd... Please tell me there is not 5 gallons of that stuff on that boat...

eh? won't have to worry if the cement gives up i guess... row row your rubber boat... oh and i just got that joke about problems lol 4200 is best for most things where you know you will have to take it apart again or remove it in the near future. 5200 is awesome for the right application... and I did find it very useful as a bedding product for my teak handrails on my cabintop once... till i tried to take the teak off to clean it, but it sure didn't leak anymore, at least.
