- My first sailboat was an inflatable raft. I was 10. I made a mast that sat in a coffee can, with a jury 'cat rig; i made awkward leeboards for her, and when I was 11, I sailed/rowed her from Peterborough, On. Canada, to Bewdly on Rice Lake, ON. I wasn't a speed demon -It took me 3 days to go 30 miles. Camped with my tent each night, best memory I ever had on the water! I have lived in the high arctic (north of 70), since 2006. Before that I lived and sailed Thalassa III all over the N. Atlantic and Great Awesome Lakes. I haven't been south of 60 since 2009. Sure would like to see a tree...
