Crack in hull

It is enough of a crack to let water into the boat when in the water. No clue where it came from, but I imagine likely from an impact with something, perhaps a rock, perhaps a log, maybe something else entirely.

If the boat is put on a trailer and moved a long distance, is there a chance the crack will get larger? Should the crack be repaired before the trip?

Repairing cracks in fiberglass looks simple enough with epoxy and mat etc. Is there anything different on the bottom of a boat to make it stronger?

Re: Crack in hull

I doubt the trip will be too big a deal on a properly supported trailer, you're going to repair it anyway right?

Re: Crack in hull

I wouldn't use epoxy .
Epoxy is harder when it cures so it Ivan create a hard spot and it's only 15 % stronger and 300% more expensive.

Transfer the boat , grind down the damage to clean good solid glass .
Use 2 chopped mat layers to achieve good bonding at the begining do the rest once chopped mat one cloth , until you achieve the same thicknes .

If you have access on the inside the first cloths must be at least 7 times bigger than the hole you want to cover

Let it cure , gellcoat with microballoons for easy fair , our in the water and enjoy .
