Perkins 4-154 HELP

I have a bit of a problem, one of the injector lines has developed a crack and is leaking fuel into the bilge. I can't find anyone to build me a new one or find a replacement line from Perkins. I'm in British Columbia if anybody has an idea please advise. Can I use a break line or something else? I would hate to have to replace the engine because of one 100.00 piece. HELP

Try Trans Atlantic Diesel. (http://www.tadiesels.com/) they have an enormous stock of used and new parts for Perkins. Very knowledgeable.

Re: Perkins 4-154 HELP

WOW! I thought this would be an easy one. Was I ever wrong. Just spent a 1/2 hour looking in E-Bay, TAD, Parts For Engines in U.K. and South East Tractor Parts.
Struck out every where. All I can say is check any used source you can find. Engine rebuilders and used marine engine dealers. I'm sure it's out there. You just have to sniff it out. Good luck.

Or perhaps try a shop specialising in hydraulic lines and fittings, I reckon they could make a custom part for you.

If the original part is metal rather than flexible, last resort is to buy the raw materials, a bender and flaring or brazing equipment and DIY.

Easier than replacing the engine

EDIT: just had a look at some 4-154 images on google and the lines look like standard steel tubing with flare fittings. The flare nuts and tubing should be available as raw materials in most places. And you have the old one to copy the bends etc. DIY is quite possible on board IMO.

Re: Perkins 4-154 HELP

If you can't find another solution the Westerbeke W58 is a Perkins 4.154. Identical engine except for the paint color. The coolers, exhaust and other external parts might be different but the basic engine, block, fuel system etc are all the same.

I checked and it looks like these parts might be available here.

http://www.marinedieseldirect.com/ca...ystem&size=600

Also, the 4.154 was used in tractors and other farm and construction equipment. I found a spare water pump for my engine from a farm tractor dealer in Iowa.

Re: Perkins 4-154 HELP

The crack can be welded with a tig welder. You drill a small hole at each end of the crack to relieve the stress and then weld. Metal has to be clean, no diesel residue. I've done it. Any welding shop that does fine work should be able to do it. Probably more expensive than buying a replacement tube.

Re: Perkins 4-154 HELP

Massey Ferguson used the 4-154 in its tractors. Used to be tons of parts available for them.

Interesting. I have an old MF with a four cylinder diesel but 1960 model which I'm guessing predates the 4.154.

Re: Perkins 4-154 HELP

Yes agree with Lepke can be tig welded or braze a bit of next size up pipe over crack but cheaper to find a used line. You wont have to replace engine :-)
