What’s wrong with the kid that owns it that the boat isn’t at least clean?!?!

I'll give it a shot - he's 24 and single.

Another one of those questions that make me wonder about the future of mankind.

And apparently doesn’t have the understanding that clean sells and dirty doesn’t

Re: How Much Would You Pay For This Boat?

One of the things hardly touched in this discussion is inventory. As I compiled the list of things the boat would need to be safely sailable and the cost of doing so, I hadn't even touched on the cost of a typical inventory.

This boat had been stripped clean, as if some owner saw it as scrap. The cost of what would become inventory was substantial.

We saw another boat over the weekend, a polar opposite of Allegro II. When the owners sent my SO the inventory, she couldn't believe all that was included. "That's what I was trying to explain when I said the lockers on Allegro II were all empty," I told her.

Out of curiosity I priced out the major items and added that cost to all the other things Allegro II would need. It was more than the cost of the boat. In the end I figured that boat would have cost us over $30k to get it to where I knew we'd eventually take it.

It **is** scrap, that silly kid just didn't realize it and it's cost him a lot, expensive lesson.

Unless he finds an equally foolish buyer.

Best thing the kid could do is to strip out what is left, sell the parts, and ship the hulk off to the landfill. The lead keel alone is worth about $.75/lb x 4250lbs. Then there are the hatches, fittings, lights, ....... He should easily clear half of what he spent.

I can guarantee you he's not scrapping it. We offered him more than scrap and he stood firm on his price.

It's only been about 6 weeks since he listed it. We took up four of those weeks. When we dropped the price after submitting a 4 page report on all that has to be done to the boat, he told the broker, "I've seen CS33s at 25k and more." The broker tried to explain how condition and equipment can dramatically increase the value but I guess that didn't sink in.

I haven't seen the boat reappear on YW yet.

He's lucky to find someone who will list it. What's he asking?

Me-thinks he really needs this lesson.

I can't find the listing. I looked on YW and SB listings but it wasn't there. I don't know what the broker agreement was but it's only been about 6 weeks since the original listing.

Well, he might be telling the truth, or is half the rudder missing and does the keel have a big crack in it? Without coming out, you won't know, not to mention GRP blisters.

We did. We're in a contract to buy a boat that's the polar opposite of this one.
