Urgent help needed: OpenCPN crash

Dear friends,
I am right in the middle of the North Atlantic on my way to the Azores - and OpenCPN crashed - it seems impossible to be reanimated:

I was deleting Weather charts in Weatherfax, when the prgram crashed. It does not start again, not even in secure mode.

The log shows the following:
21:03:52.954 ERROR filefn.cpp:1045 File 'C:\ProgramData\opencpn\navobj.xml.changes' couldn't be removed (error 32: Der Prozess kann nicht auf die Datei zugreifen, da sie von einem anderen Prozess verwendet wird.) [wich means it is being used by another process]
21:03:52.954 MESSAGE navutil.cpp:1687 Applying NavObjChanges

Measures I have taken that don't help:
-restart the computer
-replacing navobj.xml with navobj.xml.1 or .2
copying navobj.xml.changes on itself and using the new file

I feel myself blind on the ocean and would really appreciate your help.
As I have StarLink I even would be able to call you by phone or use AnyDesk or TeamViewer

Thank you in advance
a desperate sailor

aurigo...

1. Remove all navobj.xml files, including the backups and "changes" file. You may like to save them somewhere safe, for possible re-import later.

2. If that does not work, then remove (and save) the OpenCPN config file ("opencpn.ini").

3. If that does not work, then remove and re-install OpenCPN from scratch.

The developers would very much like to get copies of the above removed (and saved) files, to analyze the startup failure.

We could also try Anydesk. PM me your address and schedule.

Re: Urgent help needed: OpenCPN crash

Hi Dave,
it worked! Thank you very much for your quick help. Everything works fine again and I only lost abt. 35 miles of my track.
FYI: I am a professional skipper and have for the last 13 years I have sailed abt. 120.000 miles exclusively with OpenCPN. Most of the boats I drive have only plotters with Navionics, which I leave by the side, and work only with my notebook. There is nothing better!
