Morgan Out Island For Sale (Reduced)

1973 Morgan Out Island currently in Jacksonville, Florida. This ketch is well known on the US East Coast with 24 transits from Maine to the Bahamas, but is being sold due to physical limitations.

I'm selling for $50,000, but respecting all offers. (Now $40,000 as of 3-30-17) Well, now $39,000,-'just sounds better! ...also adding two folding Dahon aluminum bikes and a "Hooka-like" dive system. 'and a $1,400 new Haul-out and double coat Trinidad 75 provided at the time of a buyer's survey.

For added information for this ketch search "Aythya" on the Cruisers Forum home page and read the posts started by Hudson Force where I have shared many projects and refits. Also read the online article featuring a review of "Aythya" in the May 2009 issue of Southwinds Magazine. All basic specs are found on sailboatdata.com Morgan Out Island 413.

This "turn-key" vessel comes with a 7KW Kubota Generator, Benmar/Nexus autopilot w/Hynautics hydraulics, Technautics refrig/freezer, Kayaks, aluminum propane tanks for Princess Stove, Furuno radar, Simson Lawrence manual windlass, Carribe 9L RIB w/4-stroke, solar/wind generators, extensive maintenance records and a former owner full of supportive advice!
Aythya is with a long keel and a 4'3" draft which is ideal for the Bahamas, Keys and hiding out in hurricane holes.

Re: Morgan Out Island For Sale

Anyone interested in a roomy, solid liveaboard this would be a very good boat to consider. The OI41 isn't a rocket ship upwind but is fast enough off the wind and the shoal draft is fantastic for the ICW and Bahamas. I sailed the islands on an OI36 and could go places very few cruisers could go.

I'm sure this boat has been very well maintained and upgraded over the years.

Hudson Force, sorry to see you selling. You've been one of the high points of the forum. Hope you do stick around to keep contributing. Good luck.

Good Lord man don't give it away
No other OI I have seen was so well equipped. 7.5 KW, generator you could easily run a dive compressor and anything else you wanted

Dang! Every summer I keep an eye out for Aythya in Cape Cod and Maine, hoping to you meet two. . . .

It's a beautiful boat and an great deal. I hope you find eager buyers. In a few more years, it would've been me trying to buy it.

Fair winds!

Nice boat, should sell fast.
Sold my CSY a few years ago, also clean and equipped, did not have to list it with a broker, buyer showed up with cash having seen pictures on the internet.

Re: Morgan Out Island For Sale

Thanks for the thoughts. It's hard to let it go, but Nancie's post-polio syndrome won't allow her to manage the companionway or boarding steps.

I do plan to stay with boating and remain active on the Cruisers Forum. I'll be looking for a little Downeast with a cuddy cabin. I like the design with the single inboard diesel under an engine box on the open deck. 'something from 80 to 120 hp at =/- 25' that will allow gunkholing beyond all those fixed bridges that have fenced me out for years.

I'm also looking forward to some interior work on the Morgan that I was never able to do while living aboard. It's beginning to look so different with all our stuff taken off and this allows me to think about painting the inside of some lockers that were always full and replacing some of the liner material that was behind the full shelves in the V-berth.

Good man, Hudson.

Doing the interior work will help with the ending of your stewardship over the boat. Glad that you will still have a way to get out on the water, too bad your wife won't be able to accompany you. I'm sure she'll miss it too.

Glad you'll stay around, and best wishes to both of you.

Thanks, I like seeing my parting with my boat phrased in that manner. I'm not one to place any vitalistic attributes upon the boat, but I have tended it as a piece of art.

I'm most disturbed by placing my boat among the market value with all the other early 70's Morgan Out Islands that, with few exceptions, have not been maintained with quality over the last forty plus years. "Aythya" is not unique and it never was a high quality build, but it's a forty-four year old Barbie Doll that could be fresh out of the box.

Nancie and I are spending our first night together in our new shore home,- she was out of town yesterday. It's great to see her able to thrive without the steps and the long walks out the dock, but it is an impressive six paces from the galley to the dining table!

Re: Morgan Out Island For Sale

Ya know, Hudson, I am aware that your particular OI may be heaps better than most. Don't sell her too low in the market; both you and she deserve recognition of the loving maintenance done over those years of stewardship.

All the best,

Ann

Re: Morgan Out Island For Sale

I don't know if this is something that would interest you, but there is a boy scout camp in the Florida Keys that does charter sailing programs for youth groups from all over the country (and world). They contract privately owned boats and captains for the program, and they're almost exclusively Morgan OI's or CSY 44's. It would be three months a year, and you would get to share your boat and your experience with young adults. It pays pretty well too, might give you the flexibility to keep your boat and buy a small power cruiser. I used to work for them, shoot me a PM if you're interested and I'll put you in touch.

Re: Morgan Out Island For Sale

IIRC the 41OI is the "415" in this case the bottom one, since it's Ketch rigged.

Sailboatdata.com seems to have a mix of data for some of their postings. I notice that, if you select "Morgan Out Island 41", the photo image is a ketch identical to mine and all the data and layout is representative of the 413 model except the diagram and the rig data is for the sloop.

PhiSig1071, Thanks for the thought about the Boy Scout charters, but I believe I'll just sell my Morgan and keep a small Downeast for play.
