SENC folder purge

Is there any purge routine to avoid the SENC folder to become bigger and bigger ?
I have been traveling a bit around the world to explore the different ENC charts I have, my SENC folder is around 1.5 Gb !
if not, is it possible to delete the folder ? the files ? as far as I understood, this folder is a kind of cache ...? (running WIN 10)

Thanks for your support

I used to worry about stuff like that because I was accustomed to hard drive space being in short supply. Now days that just isn't anything to worry about. What's 1.5GB when you can buy a 4TB hard drive for less than $100?

juancho38...

Anything in the SENC directory may be deleted while OpenCPN is stopped. The required files will be recreated as needed.

Thanks

Juancho...

consider that rebuild the SENC on-the-fly will take time. Don't be surprised to see delays when zooming and panning on "virgin" ENCs where the SENC has to be build still.

Re: SENC folder purge

I understand.
For my curiosity, why is it not necessary with CM93, or at least the cm93 folder never turns to be so big ?

Re: SENC folder purge

CM93 is already a "SENC format", optimized for processing, while standard S-57 (or S-63) needs to be preprocessed to get something to render in a reasonable matter.

oeSENC - as the name says - is preprocessed as well.
The Transas TX-97 and the Navionics or Garmin sets are other examples for SENCs.
By definition all the SENCs are incompatible between each other.

One might call S-57 an exchange format, not a render format.
