2.6 beta got an error when creating senc

also I downloaded the entire ENC for the USA.
ran the opencpn -unit_test_1 which loads as many charts to senc conversion as it can before dieing.
Fills up the SENC opencpn directory folder to about 3.2gb
Anyway, doing this renders opencpn completely unresponsive extremely slow unusable. And this on a 3.2gb dual core PC. That is true for me on 2.5 and 2.6 beta versions. Slowdown must have something to do with file processing these large numbers.

So far the only great experience I have had is using the cmap93 maps which run fast and easy.

So I clicked the force database reload option and now its back to converting to SENC evertime I scroll. I suppose you might be able to use opencpn with NOAA ENC if you somehow limit yourself to loading only a few charts into the system.

As you have discovered, for armchair exploration cm93 is far superior to quilted NOAA ENC.

This is mainly due to the complete small scale coverage of cm93 as compared to NOAA ENC. NOAA has focused on commercial ports for large ships, and the cartography where we (usually) like to cruise is poorly represented by NOAA ENC cells to date. They promise to completely duplicate the RNC coverage as resources allow over the next few years.

You might use NOAA ENC's for sailing in your local area if the available RNC's are questionable.
