P-sea Windplot waypoints

Has anyone successfully imported way points, routes or tracks from P-Sea Windplot into OpenCPN?

Re: P-sea Windplot waypoints

What format does it export in? Attach an exported file here, adding a .doc extension. We can try it.

Re: P-sea Windplot waypoints

Has this been exported to a known format?
DAT does not mean much, its binary.
We need something exported into a known format either xml, gpx, txt, etc.

Re: P-sea Windplot waypoints

I am doing more checking. The dat files that I have are how the local Winplot users share their hangs and wreck locations with one another. I am not familiar with winplot but will see if I can get more info. The Winplot website mentions import/export of gpx files

Re: P-sea Windplot waypoints

LeoA,
Ok they have gpx import/export. You can use gpx to import your routes to OpenCPN. No need to do more testing. This will work.

I suggest you download Opencpn 4.2.0 and read the User Manual - Getting Started.

Re: P-sea Windplot waypoints

LOL Rick, I have been using OpenCPN for years and know how to import/export in it. My question had to do with the Windplot files that I had. It turns out that they are backup/restore data files for Windplot. I will get my hands on a friend's windplot computer tomorrow and get the gpx files that I need

Re: P-sea Windplot waypoints

Were you able to import P-sea Windplot tracks and waypoint to opencpn using their gpx files? I was able to do it before on one of P-sea older version but i forgot which one. I am now trying to do it for the their latest version and it just doesn't seem to load. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: P-sea Windplot waypoints

These files are not even valid XML, not even speaking about GPX. You need to fix them and they will import just fine.
What needs to be done for the waypoint file:

1. Replace the nonsense header at the beginning that looks like
Code:
<GPX
version 1.1
Creator P-Sea WindPlot
   <metadata>
       <link href="http://www.p-sea.com>"
           <text> P-Sea Software Co.</text>
       </link >
       <time>05-20-202109:34:54</time>
   </metadata>
with

Code:
<gpx>
2. Fix the broken sym tags - replace all the occurences od "/sym>" with "</sym>"

3. Add the following line at the very end of the file:
Code:
</gpx>
The track file is MUCH more broken, so first let me know if you were able to at least follow these simple instructions. Of course the real solution is to fix the broken program producing this crap.

Re: P-sea Windplot waypoints

Omg thank you so much I was able to get all the mark loaded now. I really hate this P-sea program but the people that I am helping to fix their pc all use it. This program is so buggy and freeze so often. I'm trying to convince them to try opencpn but they only want to try it if i am able to transfer all their track and waypoint which they have like 70,000 +. If u can help me with the track too that will be awesome.

Re: P-sea Windplot waypoints

It is doable, but to describe how to fix it for the tracks is quite a bit more complex and I'm not completely sure it will be doable using a simple search&replace in a text editor. At least not at this hour at night...

Taken into account that the software is not that cheap neither...
There is a price list of the software here:
