Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.409

Hi Dave

Thanks !
Very important step for O considering the numbers of Android devices

I quickly tested on a Sony phone Xperia Z3 Compact.

Loading and installation OK

Tested with a limited set of charts:
CM93 don't work ( no charts displayed ) ??
Rasters Display OK , dragging zooming OK performances OK regarding the device

Some problems :
Double click don't work
When creating route, impossible to drag chart, each time an unexpected point is created
Often, (but not always!) the dialogs are not entirely visible, so the buttons zone is not available ( see shot "dialog1", "dialog2")
Some assert failures ( the first in several circumstances, I can't say exactly when, the second when opening the route properties from the menu (see shots ( "assert1", "assert2" )

A remark : on these very small screen ( around 5' ) , the menu is enough, the tool bar is very annoying and should be hidden ( except eventually the MOB )

This is only very first and quick test.

Some android gps devices do not produce nmea data. They produce 'position' data which is then used by android apps. Pending any change with O that enables using 'position' data directly, you may need to use GPS Share WIFI downloadable from Google Play.

There is some special code processing necessary to identify the usable screen height based upon the android version. A well known android glitch. We may have the version definitions incorrect...

Thanks

Android 4.1.2 on a 7'' tablet: no maps bar visible, might be hidden below the Android bar.

Also: night and day palettes seem to work on vectors but on BSB all that happens is the menu bar changes colors, not the underlying chart.

Will test and retest and report if any solutions found.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.409

Downloaded fine from DB (yesterday)

Installed fine on HiSense Sero7 Pro running Dopa ROM(4.4.4) and masquerading as a Nexus 7.

Internal GPS works fine.

Raster charts working as expected(perfect).

Measurement tool displays no units(that I could see)

Status bar is off by default. When on, fonts are microscopic.(so, no viewable lat/long, COG, etc)

Otherwise, THIS IS FANTASTIC!!

Thank you Dave and crew

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.409

On my Xoom 10" tablet, disabling User Interface>Tablet Scaled Graphics Interface produces a satisfying balance in the size of menu icons and the O display. As mentioned by another poster the route lines appear very skinny. Is there a way in the opencpn.config file to change the width. Recommended size?

Oops! Where to find a config file?

Thanks. Changing the route line width to "3" did the trick.

An additional note. It may be that once a .gpx file is imported the import is not persistent. But, I haven't determined yet if this is repeatable, related to O itself or possibly on rebooting the tablet.

One question. Normally if O is not closed properly previous work and changes to settings are not saved. But, I don't see a close option. Is everything saved when O is closed using the android back function?

Dave

My report above :
Please forgive me and forget the point about CM93 : display is OK
It was entirely my fault

The most disturbing potential problem, which is why I am WARNING ALL OF YOU about this, is that it appears that the chart selection dialog might allow you to accidentally tap-drag-and-drop file folders into other file folders.
This can be EXTREMELY DAMAGING, since folders that other apps use can be accidentally moved to a place where those apps will not find them.
And it is VERY EASY TO DO because the swipe-scroll gesture is so similar to tap-drag on a touchscreen.
I concur with this analysis.
It is possible, with this alpha code 4.1.409, to accidentally tap-drag a system folder in the "options->charts->Chart Files->add directory" dialog.

I will do some research to find a way to disable this unexpected behavior.

Meanwhile, please be very careful as you add chart directories.

Also, OA 4.1.409 has been removed from the Dropbox download bin until this discrepancy has been resolved.

Thanks for the heads-up
