Re: Jeanneau 409

I have had a Jeanneau 409 for one month and I am so far very impressed. Lots of little problems were solved with this boat that make it a dream compared to many other boats, at least for our purposes which include cruising and occasional racing. I have a friend with a 2 year old 39i and it is a nice boat, but frankly he is more than a little jealous of our boat. The design everywhere seems a little better on the 409. Now of course I am biased, but I think that you would not go wrong to carefully consider the 409.

My wife and I sailed a new Sunsail SO 409 for a week in the BVI. I liked it enough to consider buying one myself.

Re: Jeanneau 409

I have one for about 6 weeks haven't done a huge amount of sailing but overall am very impressed. well put together. comfortable. roomy. sails well, good speed with a reasonable wind. not too tender like last boat.
It looks well too but that probably won't last once the "new" shine goes off it!

I had a 39i as well. I now have a Jenneau 45DS. My wife and I both love it. Absolutely no issues at all. I bought it in Feb 2009. It was a new boat model year 2008z I do like the 409.

How do you buy a 409 at a competitive price?

Re: Jeanneau 409

I managed to do a deal on the first one coming down for NZ and also it was a boat show agreement. (Had to be available for the NZ boat show)
Great boat really happy with it, sails well, motors well and is very forgiving.

Re: Jeanneau 409

Hi we have just picked up the new Jeanneau 379 for Christmas 2 cabin version first on the water in Australia. (Geelong)(other than the baot show version) and are very happy with its space, fitout and performance. There is a comparison photo available of a 409 and the 379 together. Approx $45k for additional 3 ft did not add up.
cheers from a newbie.

Re: Jeanneau 409

That's wonderful, congratulations!
If you don't mind, I'd really appreciate some specifics on how you equipped yours and what it cost. Electronics, canvas etc.
I will be happy to reciproicate when I finally make a purchase. Money will be the decider for me too, and if I can do without the extra three feet it will all be good each month in dockage, maintenance and insurance.I will mostly be day sailing in the San Francisco Bay. I hope to infect my kids with the bug by sailing around Alcatraz and anchoring in McCovey Cove and watching the Giants play at 3Comm Park

Re: Jeanneau 409

I have fitted a full simrad electronics package ex Jeanneau as there was a big cost difference between factory and after market. Not sure what prices are like in the USA, do your homework and make sure that broker can fit up. Sail package was standard no self tacker. Purchased 84sm assymetrical from local sail maker and had after market bimini and dodger made also after market ss folding prop.

Re: Jeanneau 409

Hello all,

I'd love a 409, was looking around one the other day in Sydney.
However (and a little off topic) I see there's lots of ex 39i owner here. As that boat is more in my price range how did you find it?
