Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2316 Released

How to adjust the size of lettering in the OPTIONS menu?
It is too small.

Correct. Thanks! I'm on windows7 too. When the menu is *disabled* in preferences, the Alt key will toggle a transient menu that disappears on first mouse click or menu activation. This is the correct behavior no doubt.

Only problem is the F11 maximize with menubar on then.
Strange, as it *will* work with a tool like HideCaption (HideCaption - Example Scripts - AutoIt Forums)

So this is still beta. When do you plan a stable release? Lots of features, but my non computer cruising friends are looking forward to several of the new features, but are afraid to bet their lives on beta code?

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2316 Released

They have two possibilities:

wait until the next Stable comes out. When? "When it is ready...."
There are no deadlines

or

using these betas which in many aspects already are better than the 3.2.2
And they behave well. From my experience.

Svkatielee...
It will be pronounced stable when it is stable.
Btw, it is more stable than 3.2.2 already now, IMO.

Mix-up of languages in the Option menu.
Due to the doubled-up concepts others are missing from the list.

This from a (German) Win8.1 system with English as selected option

As the previous beta, 3.3.2316 don't work on Mac with OSX 10.6.8.
Stop after the initial window and don't go further.

I agree with bcn and nohal.

But if I had non-computer friends that were afraid of going to a beta, I would respect that. I especially wouldn't try to convince them to go to a beta only released yesterday.

This is normal since the beginning of selectable fonts.
The list is empty for a fresh install and fills after the items are visited only.
So you will have a list of double items with every language you have changed to meanwhile.
The only way to delete them is to delete the lines in opencpn.ini at [Settings/Fonts] by hand.
It seems to be a relict of early days when localization was not be cared about.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2316 Released

Hi all
3.3.2316 on windows ( Vista and 8.1)

test new menu bar

what do not work :
- toggle full screen doesn't work but seems logic
- many function : auto follow, record track, show enc text, almost all AIS menu, create route etc...

just two remarks :
1) "drop mark at cursor" is useless as the cursor is in the menu
It could be useful in touch screen mode but in this case should be visible only in this mode
2) The menu bar is redundant with tool bar. For those who prefer menu, may be an option to hide the tool bar could be better

Dave

There seems to be a bug in the route properties.
Any value entered as "Plan Speed" in the Route properties dialog, is saved in the ini file value "PlanSpeed=XX".
Currently it looks like this value is not read back. Any new route always use a default 5 kts irrespective of the ini file value of "PlanSpeed".

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2316 Released

Hello Everyone, Hello Dave,

I tested partially this morning that 332,316 version just with CM93 and S57 SHOM.

I am here to talk about this:

"389. This is a "fogging" effect on excessive overzoom. It is a linear fade, starting at OZ=10, and the chart detail is almost completely gone when OZ=30. The screen assumes the blue color of the GSHHS background chart. Zooming can continue for all (now very faint) chart types up until the onscreen scale is about 1/600, depending upon latitude for mercator charts. At 1/600, 2 metres (best GPS accuracy) is about 3 mm, or 1/4 inch."

I must say, as a completely personal, it does not please me at all. I feel that infringes my freedom of analysis and decision by deciding for me the zoom level I choose.

Am I alone in this mindset??

To all my greatest respect. Gilletarom

There have been pro's and con's debated but I really would like people to force the charts to a 1:600 scale and to opinion.
The drawing of your apartment will be 1:100 to be able to place the sofa in the right place.

A 1:600 scale scale is far beyond of what we are using even in complicated situations.
And I still can see what I'm doing at this scale and the "fogging".
1:600 has not been possible with the S-63s for example before and nobody did complain (but one, and this is ok with the solution from 3.3.2316).

So I don't understand the panic I've seen in some postings - not in this thread but in the related S-63 one as well.
We can see right now at least what we have been seeing before AND MORE.

Or do I miss something? Examples?

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2316 Released

Gille…
No you’re not alone:
I also want to run the discussion about fogging the shore contour when zooming very close.
I understand the background that we should not lead anyone to faith small scales where vector charts seem to be very accurate but can be far away of reliability, and we do announce a warning with the “Overzoom” text. But I do also think that most of us can make the necessary assessment what’s safe and what’s not.
I would at least have the opportunity to switch the fogging function off.

I have two examples when fogging is disturbing.
In a place where I have to enter a narrow passage and I know for sure, since I’ve been there before, that the chart is reliable. If the picture is fogged I may not see the stone I know how to pass.

The next is to have a look at the attached screen shoots. On the first we see a straight line to the island in the middle. When I zoom in to see what the line is it’s obvious that there are more details but fogging is already wiping the shore contour out.
