gulfstar37..
OpenCPN 4.0 works on it as on any other version as far as I can tell (although it received little testing).
I'm not going to test 4.0 extensively on W10 anymore, but as I use it on the machine where O 4.1 betas are baked, it will receive the usual care on it.
I would be more worried about drivers for your hardware, if applicable.

Thanks for the reply. Good thought in the hardware, I ended up purchasing new GPS puck and driver when 8.1 came out. Just wanted the expert opinion, MS is offering free upgrade to W10. Again thanks.

Re: Windows 10

There is a separate thread on Windows 10, talking mainly about the updates process.

Re: Windows 10

I am always concerned about these upgrades overwhelming the computer cpu's and HD and have found it is generally better to have the original software.

Re: Windows 10

Just updated my Nav-Pc (Dell E6410 I7) to Windows 10. Seems to work just fine. Will need to go thru a bunch of other legacy applications, but initial impression is good.

User of S-63 charts remember:
Installing or upgrading to W10 will require a new InstallPemit!

Follow-Up:

I have a Brookhouse NMEA Multiplexer with a Prolific Serial to USB chip in it. Windows 10 does have a driver for it, but that doesn't seem to work with counter fit chips as well as older genuine Prolific chips. Error message: "This Device cannot start (Code 10)" .

I had to downgrade to a 1.5 version of the driver. A simple downgrade didn't work, I had to uninstall the driver, I also selected the option to delete the driver-install files, unplug, reboot, then run the setup routine for the older driver.

Works now just fine.

I used the 64 bit version from this website:
Family Software Drag Racing - Newsletter#37, Prolific PL-2303 Driver Solution for Code 10
Their install also avoids automatic updates for this driver.
