Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1220 Released

Hi Dave,

/dev/garmin is coming from one my udev rules for my usb/serial interfaces. I have one for each interface :
Code:
# 1 - GPS GARMIN
SUBSYSTEM=="tty", SUBSYSTEMS=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="050d", ATTRS{idProduct}=="0109", SYMLINK+="garmin"
I use it to get rid of the problem of the changing ttyUSBxx when plugging different usb/serial interfaces.
I have to type it manually in the box "DataPort" to set the connection for the Garmin GPS.
I have also to type it manually in the box "GPS/Plotter Port" when I upload route from the computer to the GPS. It doesn't appear in the dropdown list.
And behind "MostRecentGPSUploadConnection=", there is nothing.
But it is not a big problem to type it manually. It always works.

And for the boat going sideway, I will do a VDR plugin recording, but we don't plan to move before the 26/12. Just the time for me to learn about VDR plugin...

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1220 Released

Hi,

Testing input/output NMEA sentences to understand the logic implemented i found that when an output is selected on the same port as input, the NMEA debugging windows flash and OCPN becomes very very slow till unpluging GPS or killing the task.

Dave

Introducing 3.1.1105 you wrote
Quote:
As an assist to startup of this and subsequent versions, O will attempt to convert from a previous (3.0.x) GPS/AIS/Autopilot configuration to the new (3.2.x) internal format automatically. Simple one, two, or three port configs should be detected correctly, and the Connections dialog will be pre-loaded with the equivalent 3.2.x configuration. Please make note of any problems you see in this auto-upgrade logic, to help head off upgrade issues in the field by less experienced users.
It seems there is a slight problem with the old share port config.

The nmea is coming in, and is correct.
Oops, bad port name assumptions in the source code.
Correction available in github master now.

Confirmed, works now.

In my adventures to reset Bu353 to NMEA mode with the help of
gpsd/gpsctl I found a potential problem.

gpsctl confirmed resetting to NMEA, but neither Linux nor XP worked.
Testing on XP with "sirfdemo" I found that the very first message comming from Bu353 was some kind of error message. Sirfdem handled this and just went on to display and use the NMEA.
O on Linux just ignored everything, the error and the following nmea stream.

XP crashed. Setting the data-connection to COM 4 (in this case) an hitting "Apply" caused a crash. I put this down to the error from Bu353. I then used "Sirfdemo" to switch to sirf-mode and then back to nmea-mode. Sirfdemo then showed a clean nmea-stream. Now it was all systems go, Linux and XP worked.
So it looks like gpsctl introduced an error when switching from sirf-mode to nmea-mode, this time. I have done the switching many times, without encountering this problem.

Shouldn't O just ignore non-nmea garbage from a gps?

Downloading now, as a "crashee" I am really interested. Have been doing many tests and machine is stable for now, using a 3rd party port enumerator suppressor.

BUMP > Draggable waypoint in route planner. (like in CmapECS) VERY useful feature to tweak and fine tune routes. Right Click and move a waypoint to a safer location without having to type LatLongs into edit dialog.

Is there any other way to donate without PayPal?

Thank you.

As the Dashboard plugin and the Grib plugin are integrated in O, you always have the latest versions as long as you have the latest O.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1220 Released

Hello Dave,

I have created 3 connections. And then I try to use the columm "Allow".

At a moment, I uncheck 2 of the 3 connections and I validate by "Ok"

When I re-open the tab connection I see that there is 4 lines and one of these 3 connections is twice présent ...

See screen copy.

I observed this phenomenon twice. But it does not always happen. I do not know how to reproduce it. It seems to occur randomly.

Waypoints are draggable as long as you have Options->User Interface->Lock Waypoints unticked.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1220 Released

Thanks for the last update

Each new brew is better than the previous.

Here are some observations I made while trying this last version.

- As already noted, 102 does not work with non standard devices (/dev/gps) but works ok with /dev/ttyUSB3. "MostRecentGPSUploadConnection=" contains nothing if I use /dev/gps but contains the correct selection when I use the dropdown list.

- As already noted GPS Status does not work in the standard dashboard.

- Sometimes I see something like this in the log:
Quote:
15:16:50 EST: Changing NMEA Datasource for .9775 to Serial:/dev/gps500 (Priority: 0)
It looks like it is defining a datasource for an incomplete sentence.

- Translation typo in french when configuring I/O. see attached screen capture.

Thank you for pointing that out. Translation into French will be adjusted in the next version.

Merci pour l'avoir signalé. Cela va être adapté.

Thomas...

re: BU353 sirf problems...

I'm lost in the details. But cannot make it fail.

Do you have a repeatable failure scenario?
If so, please show the exact commands that you use to "set up" the bu353 before starting O.

Thanks
Dave
