Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

Have upgraded to Win10, no problem. With master 118ab6d Merge pull request #484
Running a large 8 day Grib 8.7mb with the Grib Playback at 2 updates per second.
1. With just grib wind feathers + Pressure. OpenCPN uses 1.5% - 3% Cpu.
2. Adding one of the shade parameters, like Clouds, SeaTemp, etc 3%-6% Cpu.
3. Then just grib Wind + Pressure + Wind Particles 7% - 15% Cpu.
Seems pretty stable.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

I think rooiedirks Target Scaling may help some aspects of running AIS so many targets, because it disables text for all targets that have been scaled to 50%. The problem would be the added cpu cycles to calculate the relative importance of each target.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

@jon...
re: I think this needs investigation to fix the issue rather than re-introduce the 'sledgehammer' to keep the list clean.

The issue needs fixing all right. We must incorporate some font scrubbing functionality.

Translations for OCPN are crowd-sourced, since no-one knows all possible user languages. For the same reason, it is not practical for the developers or testers to validate all the translation (.po) files included in OCPN. We use what comes in verbatim. So we must "do the right thing" at run-time, regardless of how scrambled a user's localized font list might be.

To this end, I've added a method to the OCPN PlugIn API.

Code:
extern  DECL_EXP bool AddPersistentFontKey(wxString TextElement);
This method marks a new font descriptor key as valid, so that it will not be scrubbed away. PlugIns need to call this entry, probably in their Init() method, with the persistent font keys that they want to define. It may be safely called multiple times. Keys will be checked for duplicates and added only once.

It is unfortunate that this makes a little more work for PlugIn authors using custom font descriptors. But it is necessary to support our legacy base.

Call it a velvet sledgehammer...

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

Dave,
The VS is fine. I had been thinking along those lines, just hadn't got round to doing anything about it. Will implement this new call as soon as it is available in git.

Thanks
Jon

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

Dave,
Just tried it out and it works fine. The user needs to interact to generate the font the first time AND seems to need to restart OCPN for it to show up. But after that it is fine.

It seems the list that is presented on the options screen is only built at startup prior to plugins being started. Therefore the list is not updated without a restart. Perhaps we need to allow the list to be updated 'in flight' so that if a plugin has called the new API it creates the entry in the fonts list so that it is available immediately.

My current workaround is to call GetOCPNScaledFont_PlugIn after the AddPersistentFontKey and the new entry appears at the end of the font list. Both of these are called from the PlugIn init method.

Dave,

In the "Options / Boats / User boat", there is the item "Computer." This item does not exist on Crowdin. So one can not translate it.

I tried 1 WP and many WP's, all resulting in a hang.

I've done a clean install and the problem has disappeared. Whatever caused it is still around.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

Hello Dave,
In what I will write, there is a click too.

1. Hide a chart: No problem, the chart is immediately hidden.
One click is enough.

2. Show your chart: Problem, according to O, the chart is theoretically visible again. But in reality with O40 as with O411108, it is not displayed immediately. He once again click on the rectangle of the chart in the "bar charts".
So to show it again, a chart that has been hidden, it takes 2 clicks.
That is that there is a click too.
Maybe he lacks a refresh of the screen after the first of these two clicks?

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

Hello Dave,

I explain here my Lenovo occurs U41, W 8.1.
I use for my tests a recently compiled by Jean Pierre release. So even if the display ad 411108, that's not the Version 411108.

Can not operate the chartdownloader plugin. Unable to update many charts catalog. And for some catalogs such as charts or RNC Brazil ENC charts of the USA, impossible to achieve the download charts.
The apparent answer is that my internet connection was bad, but I can say that this is not the right explanation.

I tested the plugin Chartdownloader with the initial release of O411108. It worked. But with this version it is not working.

Having the same problem on a different machine, the only difference is it will crash when I use "Export selected".

Hopefully, I have attached crash dump and report.

Gille - @all

I can confirm the chart downloader issue. I experienced similar failures downloading Netherlands charts.

Are you sure you've replaced the chart downloader plugin with the latest version?
I think I've seen the same stuff but it did go away after a 'make install'.

re: "Are you sure you've replaced the chart downloader plugin with the latest version?"

The Chart-down-loader is a OCPN inbound plugin and is what I know updated together with O!? And my build is the present in Github. - And I always build and install the package so every inbound plugins are updated as well.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

did-g..

Sorry my bad, you're are correct!! It wasn't the latest plugin in OpenCPN\plugins!
I use VS2013. For some reason I had to "rebuild only package" in order to update to most recent plugins. Before I always have used "Build only package"

You'll always learn - every day. Thanks for the very good "silly" question.

BTW - Now download of Netherlands chart is working
