It would be nice to prove the svg-to-c++ conversion process.

I have a question about GPS for all those using Linux. I have three USB/serial converter on my computer and each time I start it, their affectation change. So each time I have to find to which /dev/ttyUSBx my FTDI USB Serial device converter (for my GPS) is attached (dmesg...) and then run GPSD with the result, and if I don't used GPSD, make the change in Opencpn. Quite long if you are in a hurry !
Is there any mean to fix that and give and affectation for each of my converter when the computer start ?

I run into the same problem under XP and was told that it was related to the usb structure and the fact that the converters use the same (type of) driver. ???
My solution was to change the computer....
I hope you find a less crude solution.

You might be able to solve this by writing a custom udev rule.

Was running Beta 903 on XP via a serial-USB converter yesterday on a local river here in NJ USA and noticed a peculiarity in the radar rings display. On an ENC chart I could set 2 rings at 0.0625 NM intervals and the rings displayed properly. On a corresponding RNC chart the same settings gave rings that were too small by what apeared to be an order of magnitude. If I next set 2 rings on the RNC chart at 0.625 NM intervals instead, the rings displayed at the proper scale. This effect was repeatable.

Is there a .log or .ini file that might give information on this effect?

Writing your own udev rules is generally the answer. Unfortunately there is no graphical interface to this yet, that I'm aware of.

I found this interesting thread on an Ubuntu forum https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ev/+bug/107208

The short version is that you could be in trouble if your USB/serial converters are all of the same type and the manufacturer hasn't bothered to give each device a unique serial number. Then there is no way for the operating system to differentiate between the devices.
A quick way to find out is to connect all devices and then run

 sudo lsusb -v | grep iSerial

This is what I get on my present box with a BU-353 gps connected:

  iSerial                 1 0000:00:0c.2
  iSerial                 1 0000:00:0c.1
  iSerial                 0
  iSerial                 1 0000:00:0c.0
  iSerial                 1 0000:00:02.3
  iSerial                 1 0000:00:02.2

The "0" is the BU-353 without a serial.

If you run this command without getting three equal line, proceed with udev. Otherwise you have to live with the problem......for now.
This is my take on the problem. Anyone with more ideas...???

Most of the stuff here is above my ability to keep up, but I had a couple of converters on my laptop running AIS and GPS data. By ensuring I used the same connectors each time, and having Franson GPSGate software, I never had a problem - that software enables you to designate what the output virtual comm port number for the GPS is regardless of what is allocated by the laptop.

I cannot repeat this error on Linux, using detailed ENC and RNC charts for Puerto de la Luz in the Canaries.
