Yes, that is always the location of the latest Beta version for Windows. The latest formally released version is on Sourceforge.

Is a build is a new version. ?

My expertise is on a different platform, so the terminology is a little strange to me, too. Make, CVS, build, etc. I kinda know what they mean, but not always sure.

What I think is, yes, a new build is a new version. More accurately, a build is the process of taking all the little pieces and putting them together in a package. Normally, of course, you wouldn't do this unless something had changed. So normally, someone will say "the latest build". But it could be a new build, with different parameters for the build, but of the same "release". Sorry, probably more information than you wanted. But for all practicable purposes, a build is a new version.

Thanks Dan. It's not excessive at all. I'm dumber than a box of nails when it comes to programming. So every little bit helps. Are you having any of the problems mentioned with build 830? It works great on both my systems.

Regards,
Chris

I only spent about half an hour with it this morning before I headed to work. All looked good. I'll hit it some tonight.

I'm pretty dumb when it comes to PCs. Put me on an IBM i (that's the nom du jour for the AS/400 ) and I can do something.

I also don't know French, but nom du jour looks kinda right...

I'm pretty good at the things I know nothing about. I only have problems in the areas where I am an expert.

Dave..

Seems like some of the contents in the 'right click box' seriously corrupts a vital file in the basic version of OpenCPN,totally disabling the program to re-start, having first to de-install and then re-install the lot again. I did that twice and it's working fine now.

Everything else is working fine for me. I am running Vista on my Acer laptop.
Perhaps this is a Vista compatibility problem?

Dave..

I spoke too soon.. Now my Vista based OpenCPN crashes shortly after I open my IP data feed, even small ones.. If I don't open the data feed, the program does not crash.
At least THIS time I am able to re-start the program after a crash. A different scenario.

I am probably one of few with IP data feed covering multiple ship targets, but this could also become a problem for a sailor traversing a busy shipping lane like the English Channel, so I don't think it should be ignored.

Build 830 crash when AIS input enabled and mouse is being moved (Windows XP)

Confirming Sindbad7's report. When AIS input is enabled and a target is received, PLUS the mouse is being moved over the chart area, it crashes on my system. Reliably.

I went so far to delete all user settings, logs. xml file, chart database. Then I recreated the needed settings with build 830. Same result.

Dave..

I've gone back to build 822 which seems to be ok, awaiting further reports on the latest version.

I am testing build 822 now with a direct IP feed with 5000 vessels and so far it seems to be stable. Something must have gone wrong in build 830...

830 status

All...

Lots of good stuff here. In priority order:

1. Very concerned with cases where it crashes, and won't ever start again without full reload. This can only be some sensitivity to the contents of the config(.ini) file.

Sinbad7: Could you please create a crash that cannot be recovered, and then before reloading from scratch send me a copy of the config file? (opencpn.ini)

2. Viiking Sailor: are you up and running?

3. Right click on measure tool: studying tonight.

4. ditto AIS

Thanks
Dave

Dave..

I am staying with v. 822 for the moment, which is so far not giving any problems even with a 5000 ship feed. There are four facts which should give some direction:

1. It only crashes with a multiple data feed activated.

2. It also crashes in connection with the right click box contents
when moving My Ship location a second time and also when finishing with the measure device.

3. When leaving the features under 2. above,it seems like an irrevocable write error occurs which even re-installing the original version on top of the updated version will not remedy.

4. Build 822 seemed more stable. What changes were made in build 830?

I'd like to request everything and then not help.

Thanks,

Dave...

I think you misunderstood...I don't think you can say I have not been trying to help. Look at the number of messages here. Come on!!

I'll gladly re-install v. 830 tomorrow to make it crash and send you the config file..

And, Extempo whatever... keep your inane remarks to yourself, your ship is slowing...
if you follow my drift..

Dave..

Where do I find opencpn.ini ?? I did a search but Vista did not find it?
I know Vista has some peculiarities with hiding files away...
