Dave..

I have now just re-loaded build 822 on top of the previously installed build 830 and all is working fine it seems. Reading all my charts without crashes. It obviously must be some problem with build 830 as it does not accept (multiple?)data feeds.

I look forward to hear further results..

guess this is normal as the data comes from your GPS. My boat is still in the building shed, for sure not moving even an inch and I see the same as you.

If only manimau would design a nicer symbol, my boat is REALLY NOT A TANKER, its a sleek catamaran, but ok, hard to disply.

Sinbad7/AIS: what feed are you using, tried to produce a crash of openCPN w zooming in & out like crazy w local AIS receiver connected, but never more than a few ships, no way to crash (Intel Cd2mobile 1.6, 3GB XPpro/3, openCPN 133/830).

blubaju..

Funny thing is,the build 830 DID work for a while at first but after the BIG crash when using the right mouse click panel, never again. Even when it crashes now when connecting my 'non-public' IP feed,I can easily start it again as long as my data feed is off.

You have no problems NOW,but what about when you visit the busy Chinese ports with literally hundreds of ships within range? So we have to get this right.

MSVC Build

phiggins....

I have been building on MSVC with static runtime library linkage.

I do this to avoid notorious MS dll hell, and to avoid the modern gorp related to Manifests, SxS dll inclusion, etc. What a can of worms that can be, for a simple release.....

In opencpn->Properties->c/c++->Code Generation->Runtime Library
set /MT for Release build, and /MTd for debug.

Did you get and test the latest CMakeLists.txt?
Unfortunately, the runtime compiler option cannot be set by CMake(???), so you need an edit of the Project in VS.

Good luck
Dave

AIS Mouse crash...

All...

AIS mouse crash is well understood. Related to AIS target rollover code, new in 830. No workaround in 830, sorry. Fix is localized.

Measure tool is fine for test, as long as you measure something at least once.
Fix is understood.

Also, corrected Object Query dialog, no Cancel/Help buttons needed.
Also, F4 activates measure tool.

I'll have a final-final Beta tonight. Please stand by.....

Any other bugs?

Or, as I say in my other life, " Last call for the Cruiseheimer's net....."

Thanks
Dave

Dave...

I presume our old 'enemy' causing multiple target crash is also on your list?
After all, we had him tamed in build 822.

Keep up the good work.. AND .. 'Nil desperandum' as they say in Sweden when their shoe laces gets tangled....

Am I tweaking this in the help html file or you for 1.3.4 release?

also, is it worth making F1 launch the Help files? This is used on Windows in most apps, no idea about Ubuntu or Macs.

OK, now my stupid question: Are their plans to ever make OpenCPN able to read and display GRIB files? I have no programming background (since I used my Ti99/4a to program Star Wars games in basic, anyway...), and I know not what I ask, but it never hurts to dream! Thanks again, Clear skies and following seas, Chris
Check out zygrib, a very good gribviewer. It's a project similar to OpenCPN but originates in France. They are also using a GPL licence, have releases for many operating systems and an active comunity.
Who knows, maybe the development of OpenCPN will bring grib capabilities in the future. I know that David is thinking about it......

I haven't seen this mentioned before, but I discovered that if you click on "This leg" above the data boxes, while following a route, it switches the info (Range, Time to go etc.) between the entire route and the next waypoint, and back again.

Nice, intuitive approach, which is how I found it .

Cheers.

Sure...any votes on what it should look like? If there is a decision made to change the icon, we should use png instead of xpm. I would need Dave's help embedding png as c++ files in wxwidgets after the current bug list gets resolved.

Couple of points....

All....

Random comments:

1. Rhoel_Asia: F4 will be in 1.3.4. F1 will not; technical reasons. Route console "Leg/Route" selector is in 1.3.4

2. HDT, HDG, and/or HDM messages come from a heading detector, like a digital compass, or an autopilot whose, output is multiplexed into the opencpn NMEA input stream. GPS receiver cannot calculate ship's heading, true or magnetic.

Opencpn 1.3.4 will orient the ownship symbol to match the true heading as received and/or calculated form the HDx messages. If you have no source of HDx messages, then the ownship symbol will be oriented to match the COG. COG will usually be unreliable when moored....

3. We could incorporate new ownship symbology. Lets have a design contest!
Manimaul: I can handle embedded PNG c++ code like what you have shown before, no problem....

Historical note: The current ownship is derived from IHO S52 chart display standards, primarily intended for big ship ECDIS systems. Thus, the tanker image.....

I have made an attempt to follow S52 wherever sensible for opencpn. Things like colors, day/night palettes, line widths, object symbols, etc. are prescribed by this standard. To me, this implies that at least someone has put some logical thought into the entire problem of rapid assimilation of dynamic and life critical information. This is not a trivial issue, and goes beyond "what looks nice".

As far as I know, opencpn is the only consumer-level ECS which even attempts to follow S52. And we will continue to do so where sensible.

New Beta soon now, if I stop yacking.....

Not in Vista unfortunately... a key combination perhaps??
