heavy outline round safe depth

I'm using 4.6.1 on win7 x86 ult. old cMap charts from ECS

I'm sure I found a way to turn this off in earlier versions. Anyone?

Re: heavy outline round safe depth

Can you please post a screen shot?

And can you try OpenGL On and OFF to document differences?

Nearly...

OpenGL ON/OFF is at Options|Display (at the bottom)

Another question for this issue: screen size and resolution (1920x1080. etc..)?

Perhaps you want to change the display from this:

You see the scaled depth contour line width and scaled spot soundings.

You want to see something more like this:

Size:	34.4 KB

Here you see normal depth contour line width and normal sized spot soundings.

This is controlled with the

Options > Display > Advanced

tool screen.

Put a checkmark at the "Suppress scaled vector charts on overzoom" line.

Re: heavy outline round safe depth

Resolution is 1920 x 1080 DPI setting 125%

I ran OpenCPN twice from main menu (two options "OpenCPN 4.6.1" and "OpenCPN 4.6.1 - No OpenGL") to get the two screen dumps. Do you want me to try specific GL setting?

Screen dump with suppress on, with GL on and off. My poor old ATI embedded video hardware does not appear to be fully (ha ha) OpenGL compliant. BTW its an X2300 in an 6910p laptop.

Re: heavy outline round safe depth

towlerg,

As a safety feature, OpenCPN displays a bold depth contour marking the "safety depth" that is set on the

Options > Charts > Vector Chart Display

screen. Here is a screenshot showing a vector chart and typical depth settings on the Options...Vector Chart Display" screen. The depth contour at the safety depth is bolder (or darker) than the other contours.

Here is a screenshot showing the same vector chart, but the Deep Depth is set the same as the Safety Depth (5 meters). The contour at the safety depth is the same as the others.

Does this solve your problem?

Re: heavy outline round safe depth

Folks...

A visually distinctive "Safety Depth" contour is part of the IHO S52 specifications. And we make a real effort to be compliant with this spec on safety-related items.

However, Paul has the right idea. If you do not like the distinctly wider safety contours, then set the Safety Depth" to some large value, like 1000 meters. That will effectively disable the function.

Thanks
Dave

Re: heavy outline round safe depth

Thanks Paul and bdbcat for responing.

I'm not using GL which may be important.

I've found (so odd not even sure I beleive it) but the mtr. depths 3,5 and 10 are the principle influence on the heavy outline.

see attached note shallow, safe and deep all different
