Re: Feature Requests

Hi, would love to go to OpenCPN. I know it is a available on android tablets. But I also need radar and AIS working with it. Any plans to integrate these plugins in the near future.

I really prefer a tablet over a computer. They have waterproof cases you can use outside. Much more portable and take a fraction of the power to run.
Thanks

Re: Feature Requests

seacap..
AIS parsing is a core function in OCPN so already available on all platforms. Just connect it to your tablet. There are some connection possibilities. Wifi or serials. The latter via a OTG-USB cable or bluetooth.

There are no plans for radar_pi for Android so far. Since the radar communication method is the IP protocol and no hardware port is available on a tablet it will not be easy. To use wifi for the extensive radar data traffic is not feasible for most routers.

Try a Windows Tablet, I use a cheap one and it works fine. I don't use the radar plugin though.

Re: Feature Requests

I love opencpn on a laptop with windows. Only issue dont like it in the cockpit for numerous reasons. AIS no problem on a tablet, radar others issues success has been achieve with iPad which I dont have.
What I really like is ai toughbook tablet. More and more sailors love there tablets in the cockpit rather than below deck, common sense reasons. Normal tablets have issues with some of the plugins on android and different manufactures of components.
I am seriously thinking about bitting the bullet and go with. A Getac A140. Runs on windows 10 Prof. Which elevates numerous issues compared to the typical tablet.

Re: Feature Requests

I think it would be very helpful to have the chart numbers and chart scales in the chart downloader display... or have an option to show those if not default.

Re: Feature Requests

Would it be possible to show on the chart the course (route) indication and distance on that course? If Possible to 2 decimal in nautical mile. At the moment you have to bring the pointer over it.
Thanks.

Are you sure you want this, Dub? Our courses are usually pretty open in the middle, where we're getting from A to B. But at the ends, they often get pretty fiddly, with lots of short segments, getting into & out of our anchorages. This would produce a LOT of clutter on the page when zoomed out even a little bit.

Personally, I don't have a problem with mousing over a course to get this information, & I appreciate the clean line when I don't need that info.

Re: Feature Requests

This could be done with a possibility to check it out, if you don't want it.
Also, it could be done with excluding short course like !/4 of a mile say.
Best Regards

I would suggest that it be an option, and that it show dependent on view scale and that the distance between points will accept the notation.

Re: Feature Requests

Quite right. in this case the roundings would not be indicated as course and distance.

And it will be helpful also to have the numeric scale 1:xxxxx editable, to be able to type in a known value, i.e. 1:25000 etc.
I was back with updating OpenCPN: now on 5.2.2 I have seen that my suggestion for typing a scale value has been implemented.
I ask now for the "lock" button, just not to have the scale of the map which jump!

Thank you for the support and for hearing the users

Re: Feature Requests

A lock on the chart scale does, although not impossable, give a lot of problems. As the scale is different for each latitude, (Due to mercator projection) it would be needed to to a complete chart recalculation when panning a chart. I'm affraid this would cause to very disturbing delays. (Unless you have a very fast machine)

Re: Feature Requests

To the programmer of OpenCpn:-
Why are you blocking any plugins not coming from You?
Here is the print out of the case:-
The one that don't have a star are not working in version 5.2.4.

There is no blocking of plugins. I have a lot of plugins working that I have compiled myself, for example. The "star" is only for the four builtin plugins.
A square is the icon for managed plugins, that certainly works even for you?
The circle is for plugins that are not managed by OpenCPN, for example my compiled plugins or plugins handled by a Debian style package manager.

What does your opencpn.log file say about those plugins?
