In response to FSMike, I felt the same way when we went cruising the first time in the early 90's. Two years of prep., two courses in Celestial Navigation
, Off shore seminars, etc. I was a Purist. NY Boat show
, Garmin GPS
special, under $1000. Decided to break the budget
. Now look at navigation
Last summer we where thratened with a potential Hurricane
here in the NE. I wished for better information, didn't bring a computer with us on our two week cruise
. The iPhone is just a tool. Use it how you want, or not at all. I don't need constant contact, but to have the resources available, especially at a time of need, makes it very valuable. Add on all the apps, not just for sailing, but for everything from researching an online manual to just simple entertainment makes it a value.
We are heading out again this fall, and that is why I am interested in apps that are useful.
