Airplanes to sailboats

Flying is too expensive. The best most can do is go flying somewhere every few weeks. A new little 35ah battery for your pretty little bird $250, new instrument $600 on and on. An IA ain't worth more than a $100, chicken feed compared to a new vac pump or almost anything else that has FAA on it.

I ain't small, guy who took me out years ago to show me spins was well over 6' and 300 lbs+.
You leave the windows open, sounds silly but it either that or somebody is getting an arm around their shoulders. 120 and 140 are nearly identical, most all 120's have had the little Windows etc added.
Neither needs flaps really, but the 140 has them, I'm sure it's to teach people to use flaps as they are not usually needed.

I'm another long time pilot, but new sailor. Been on sport fishing boats since I could walk, even got a 50 ton. Soloed @ 16. Finished building an RV-6A @ 27 and have been flying it all over the country since, Also spent 6 years between 135 and the regionals. Left after my airline went Ch 7 and I didn't want to commute while sitting on the bottom of a seniority list.

The RV is a great airplane. Based on Long Island, my wife and I take it to Key West for 3 day weekends. The reality is setting in that once we retire, the airplane will not make much sense, so we're strongly considering cruising for part of the year. We both enjoy the water. We finished the ASA-101 this summer and are looking for our first sailboat.

BTW, someone mentioned the Twin Otter. I've never flown one, but have been a passenger in the back for over 200 flights, but only 1 landing .

Yes sir.....low time, super reliable....burns any kind of jet fuel. Engines are basically disposable.....very easy to take off the tail and slide in a new one.

Afterburners work too

Been flying sky-divers for years, fun parties afterwards.
Tried to jump once myself. Girlfriend ditched me so I jumped to help forget her.
Crushed left ankle on first landing. Forgot about the ex-girlfriend really fast.

I had the same thought .... oh, one of those guys! Yeah, I flew them for a few years too, but threw them out of a C206. I made three jumps, but decided I liked my odds better flying the a/c. Like CSY Man said though, the jumpers do know how to have fun.

I have sailed off and on for 30 years. Took up flying about 9 years ago and flying 200 plus hours a year (Cirrus SR22).
Bought a new Lagoon 42 recently (which is enroute to BVI for charter fleet). Cant wait until I can go sailing again. Maybe Fly to BVI.
Both like to make dollars disappear.

I never saw a jump plane that wasn't a POS. They need to cut costs somewhere and the plane is the obvious place.

I fly ag for a living. I took up sailing a few years ago. I can't wait until the season is over and drag my Flicka down to Florida for some R&R.
