But I agree I wouldn't want to dive anywhere in NYC in November and visibility does compund the problem, but I know a few divers in the area that would do it for a reasonable price while cleaning your hull (growth being another problem that adds to drag). My only motivation was to present the options, whether Lorenzo is comfortable with them is his progative.

The last time i anchored there was in 2000 aboard a 750' tanker with a 10:1 scope and we where the only ship in the anchorage NOT to drag anchor... then, as we brought it up, we needed a sawzall to cut the rebar off the chain. Not fun.

The bottom line is the area is infamous for dragging, go with as much scope as you can get (as I said in point #1) but, whether it holds or not, always have a plan B in your back pocket.

Paul Allen was in town with his yacht Octopus, so I dropped work on my boat in the yard and rowed out to see him, with the intent of asking for the OPs benefit what kind of rode and anchor he used. Unfortunately, Octopus seems to have TWO helicopters and he was out on the other one, presumably trolling with it to put fish on the table, so I didn't get a chance to find out. However, since he was anchored in 80 feet of water, I guess he has more than 130 feet of scope out...
