Maxwell Freedom Windlass

We have a Maxwell Freedom Windlass on our H28 and it started to spit out plastic bits yesterday. The other problem is the foot switches are to far away from the bow so you can't really see the anchor coming up.
I think we should replace the windlass and change the switch arrangement .
I also discovered the Freedom model is not made anymore.
Any thoughts on the windlass problem would be appreciated .

I have 2 VW800 by Maxwell. I like the fact that it has a drum for line. They may take the same footprint for installation? First I would take it apart, and maybe it's an inexpensive piece. Google the manual if you don't have one, or call Maxwell. You might get lucky & it's a $10 piece, and a day's labor?......i2f
