VDO Level Indicators Read in Reverse!

I have VDO Level -Type Sender 306 001 for my water tanks and for some reason two of the indicators read in reverse. Full equals Empty and Empty equals Full. Of course Half is Half but you get the picture. I have WEMA level sensors in the tanks. Any ideas?????

Your Sender & Instrument are mismatched.

European senders & gauges are 10 Ω (Empty) ➛ 180 Ohms (Full); whereas North American units are 240 Ω (Empty) ➛ 30 Ohm (Full).

See “Basic Engine Gauge Theory & Testing"

Gord -

The scope of your knowledge and/or your reference materials never ceases to amaze me. I was going to suggest swapping the wires on the gauge from one side to the other.

Always impressed...

Gord,

Thanks for the help. I guess the only solution is to replace the gauges?

You do not necessarily need to change the gauge, some gauges work with both US and European resistances. Some have an additional terminal that you put a jumper across to convert it to the other system. I know some Teleflex gauges have this. Check with the manufacturer.
