In the USSR aircraft mechanics were addled by cooling alcohol, I am concerned at what a machinist may have gotten into here in the USA....did you find a stash of torpedo juice?

Don is just overcome with anxiety because nothing ever goes wrong with his boat..he needs a nice ol' woody to lavish attention on. He is not a lair...just a victim of circumstances.

Re: I'm an Idiot and Lair

Hi Don, don't know what the fuss is about:

The popularity of the adjective lairy quickly spawned a noun and a verb to match. The noun lair, meaning `one who displays vulgarity, esp. in dress or behaviour; a show-off; a larrikin' was in use by the 1920s as in C.E. Sayers, Jumping Double: A hit behind the ear from one of those back street lairs. And it remains in use today, often in the collocation mug lair, applied to someone supposed to be both stupid and vulgar, as in the description published in The Australian in August 1982 of a particular Carlton half-forward flanker as `a mug lair and a show pony.

Perfectly acceptable spelling and terminology although you could have been more succinct.

Don,

Just change your user name on Cruisers Forum to A_Lair and let it go.

Oh, forgot - you can't hear me.

Vulgarity of dress or behavior? On CF? Certainly there is none of that here....at least among the mono hulls. What is vulgar about a double breasted blue blazer in combination with leather shorts and pant retainers.

Seems to me your boat is a hazard and should be permanently marked as such on a NOAA chart. You've GOT to be too dense to back out of a slip. Cut your plumbing, open up your seacocks and walk away. 😉

Re: I'm an Idiot and Lair

Just had to laugh, I found the same thing.
If you happen to make a comment on someones pet brand they get a little testy, as if you said their kids are ugly.
I've owned production and custom boats, they all had good and bad traits, when someone points out a weakness in the design or construction most times I have to agree, I'm honest about the shortcomings of the design/ construction, nothings perfect, it's all a compromise. You have to pick what your willing to live with and what fits you best within the budget constraints.
But hey, what do I know?
It only kills me when the shortcoming requires me grinding fiberglass to fix it. It's no fun when you've got fiberglass dust in your shorts.
As long as your on the water more than on the hard it's all good.
I may not be that bright, but I'm persistent.

I'm an idiot and a lair!

I'm an idiot because I believe that the boat designers and builders know more about boats than I do so tend to take their word over internet posters. Somehow in spite of this I have not killed anyone or myself and have fewer boat problems than "normal" based on all the threads I've read.

I'm a lair because regardless of any true life experience I post about my boat someone always trashes both me and my boat telling me how wrong I am. Since I just say the facts of my experiences and it doesn't match the facts they want to believe, I must be a lair!

If only I had realized the truth long ago

Interesting. I hadn't really noticed your posts before, you kinda blended in with all the other idiots and lairs(sic) around here, especially the ones who are a little rusty on their spelling.

Sorry dude, you're going to have to screw up a lot harder to distinguish yourself from the herd.

Came across while looking for something else, but there was more fun here back in the "old" days.

I notice there's an especially strong opinion on boat manufacturers when someone gives an opinion on a certain make. Like you, I just comment on ones I have direct experience with, unfortunately I've been told I know nothing about the boats I've sailed on or refurbished, apparently those who've never owned one of that make know far more.
Makes it interesting, I've learned so much about things I had personally experienced, but apparently didn't. Was I actually there?
It's so confusing, I think I'll have a drink instead. Good thing a sense of humor goes a long way, mine is boundless and makes it all fun.
Cheers.
