You're absolutely right. All sailboats are compromises.

There's probably some significant compromise regarding that Hans Christian down the dock that I'm not aware of ... perhaps the price.

Then there's all that teak, but if I could afford the HC I could probably afford someone to take care of the teak for me. I love looking at that boat, but the teak is never all done at the same time. They were sanding yesterday in pretty tough heat.

One thing I couldn't compromise on was leaks. I'm sure others find ways to live with them, but I just didn't want to.

And it would be tough to give up that toe rail -- even for a HC.

Mostly right, but the original use of " don't " was correct. The noun being driven by " don't " is " people " not " one ".

"of those people" is a modifying prepositional phrase. 'people' is the subject of the phrase, not the sentence and the verb must agree with the subject of the sentence.
