Re: Like button

Just pushing the envelope a little guys I think it would make a good feature- I’ve often wanted to like comments that others have said.

Re: Like button

I send a thanks when I've got access to the desktop version, but I agree, it would be nice to have in the app, which I use 99.9% of the time. A quote, and +1 is about the best we can do. But this isn't Facebook, so.......

Re: Like button

I don't know about android but on the iPhone app you can switch to web view and trigger a thanks from there.

Why does the forum need to be more like Facebook?

Re: Like button

What would the function of this “like” button be?
For that matter as a non facebook type, what is it’s function there?

Re: Like button

I think a LIKE button or mechanism that shows how many times a particular comment is liked by members is a good thing for a forum like this.

While I often send a Thank You to members who post especially good or detailed or helpful stuff, there are many more that I like. An easy LIKE button on this forum would give more positive feedback to those posters (something I think would naturally increase participation of members) , and show something of how Members respond to posts. As it is, the thumbs up access through the advanced reply form, and the need to copy/reply cause an obstacle to responses, and those are sometimes far removed from the original post, when posted

In comparison, the sailnet.com model has the "likes" attached to each comment, so one immediately sees how that comment or post has been received by the forum members..

I see more positive to this than negative.

But, I don't think of this forum like Facebook.

I think the positive feedback the "Like" indication has promotes and encourages member participation, especially in some threads that debate issues and opinions.

Re: Like button

I've been posting on this and other boasting forums for 15++ years. A like button is absolutely useless. If someone likes what I write, great. In other cases people disagree. I don't "count" my likes on forums that have that feature. Useless. It's a forum, not Facebucks.

Re: Like button

The “like” button on the other forums I am on keeps the number of posts per topic down quite a bit. On Cf, it seems the goal is to get to 10 pages or more. With the “like”, you just “like” it and go on. When someone asks a questions that someone else has already answered similar to how you would have answered it, you don’t have to reply, you just “like”. It’s not to count how many people like my post. It’s keep the threads shorter.

Re: Like button

I’ve asked this in the past and I’m not sure why there is so much resistance to it.

Perhaps it is because there is already so much normative pressure.
