Re: Biggest Solar Panels...

Is the radar going to be shading one of the panels where it is? Having complete shade across a portion of the panel can make the output drop to near zero depending on how the panel is wired up.

Re: Excess 14 new design

Even the earlier Excess models with Lagoon hulls should sail somewhat better than their Lagoon brethren due to the much lower boom and lower center of effort, giving them the ability to carry a...

Re: An Apparently Stupid Way to Make Coffee

Where I sail in the Caribbean, most of the islands don't have any recycling infrastructure, so it all ends up as waste. There definitely is a lot of variation in how much you choose to pay for your...

Re: An Apparently Stupid Way to Make Coffee

Well $0.30 per Nespresso pod, compared to $0.20 per shot is 50% more expensive, and for arguably much lower quality coffee. Plus all the plastic waste from the Nespresso pods.

Re: An Apparently Stupid Way to Make Coffee

Or just don't invert the Aeropress and use it the way it was intended. Bobble press looks like it's pretty much just a french press. As long as you don't have your coffee ground too course, like if...

Re: An Apparently Stupid Way to Make Coffee

I used to use inverted method. Now I put the plunger just into the top. That creates a vacuum that stops the water from coming out so it can brew for the 30 seconds I use, then I just slowly push...

Re: I hate my induction plate!

The extra cost included additional solar and inverter. That's probably why it was so much more.

Huh, the articles you linked say preheating will solve the problem of unevenness.

The factory is very small and swamped/busy or the boats are small and swamped?

Re: Older Leopard vs newer Lagoon

Also, look up the LWL for each boat on sailboatdata.com
The Lagoon 40 are only a 38' long boat. The Leopard 46 is pretty close to the name at 44.6' Leopard tends to include the length of the...

Re: Man-overboard drill in 25 knots?

The figure-8 is taught in the ASA courses. It's also in the ASA books for the courses, which list three methods I believe.

Re: I got scammed out of $1462 for S&H of a boat I am selling!

Actually, the takeaway is ONLY use Paypal since they provide buyer protection, and never just send money using Moneygram or a money order or wiring money as the OP did. The problem was that he did...

Re: La Vagabonde - I don't understand

I usually watch them while I'm having my coffee in the morning, waiting for it to kick in. I doubt I'd have time to hop on a plane for a few hour flight to the ocean, and still be on time for work....

Probably because they've been putting in the work for a long, long time. Also, as said, people rarely go through the effort to unsubscribe. If you stop watching videos, YouTube stops feeding them to...

Re: Questions about a Leopard 44

If you're in the Caribbean, where the wind is typically from the east, then it gives you a shaded area with a nice breeze to hang out in during the afternoon/evening when the rear cockpit, facing...

Re: What was/is your bug out number?

Getting your RN will give you a lot of options because you can pretty easily work as a traveling nurse a few months out of the year, and don't need as much in your cruising kitty. Might need to get a...

Re: Anyone dreaming about living on a cruise ship?

It's sort of the opposite of my dream. I'd rather be at deserted beaches, or cool little beach bars as in the Grenadines. Never waiting in lines, or having to shuffle in a big crowd getting off the...

Re: Can I keep my US appiliances(110v)?

The boat has a 220V inverter. OP is asking if he can use his 110V appliances with no modification. Someone suggested a step-down transformer to step down from 220V to 110V. If he thought about just...

Re: Can I keep my US appiliances(110v)?

BillKny is correct. You can check the input voltage requirements on the power supply brick or chargers for the laptops, phones, gopros, ps4. They should all be good.

If you decide to switch your...

Re: Hatches at Night, Open or Closed

Hatches and companion way wide open for as much ventilation as possible when I was in Grenada. It seems most people at anchor at least leave hatches open, otherwise you'd hear a lot of generators...

Re: Best Place to Live Board on $1M USD?

How's the freediving, spearfishing and surfing? It's always nice to jump in the water each morning for a swim. Is there good visibility there?

Re: OC Tenders - Review Anyone?

How's a Takacat or TrueKit compare to these options? They look like they'd be great for diving or swimming from. Biggest con being shipping, but Takacat seems to have a US distributor now.
