OC Tenders - Review Anyone?

They look pretty good, but come in at $10K NZD for the 3.3m without any optional extras and shipping.


Has anyone got any info about them good or bad?

A german company copied it and it's a bit cheaper. I would wait until a Vietnamese company makes one for even cheaper. Well i wouldnt say copy. the design actually looks a bit more stable.

I don't know if I can enjoy myself with a 14000 dollar dinghy tied at a dock. If someone stole it and put wrap on it no one is going to notice.

Yeah price is an issue, especially if it gets knicked!

That's a great option if you're planning on cruising for many years as one of these would probably outlast three Highfields. The downside is, if you need one tomorrow, you're out of luck as they make them custom to order and it could take you 6 weeks to get one even in OZ (maybe longer for Perth). Currently, the carbon fiber model costs about a grand (USD) more than a Highfield but is lighter and will last much longer. If you're currently on the hard or can wait, this would be the way to go in my view.

Hi I have an occ tender. As a full time cruiser it gets a lot of use . It is so much better than a rib . Stronger and no deflating tubes, much more room than same size rib . Really well designed and constructed to a very high quality . Light as they use Kevlar where extra strength is needed to keep it light. Also the best wheels for beaching

I cruised on a mate's yacht with an 330 OC Tender (non carbon) in NZ, Tonga and Fiji for several months. They are lightweight, fast and fun to drive and have a very exotic cool factor. You need the beach wheels and ladder. Maybe initially a little bit corky when you first step aboard but so are many RIBs. They are a little bit twitchy and loose at planing speeds which is fun. Great boats.

FYI $10,000 NZD is $7,100 US so not quite as expensive as they first looked but still not cheap.

Add another $2,500 for shipping to the US and it quickly gets to a ridiculous price.

Not really
3.5 metre alloy Vnose I posted earlier is lighter and a hell of a lot more robust and a fraction of the cost.

Yeah, nah.
They are the iphone of dinghys, nothing exotic or cool, just overpriced for what they are.
