Re: Yanmar 2GMF Surprise

Thanks, I was thinking of trying some sort of epoxy or "liquid steel" product. No experience but can investigate. If I could fill the worn section with something hard I could then drill the main...

Yanmar 2GMF Surprise

So getting ready to launch so I decided to replace the fresh water impeller and both vee-belts on my Yanmar 2GMF. When I loosened the tensioning bolt on the alternator, the alternator had a lot of...

Re: Can I remove the chainplate knees?

If your boat has always been in fresh water, and you see no issues, I personally would leave them alone.
40 year old chain plates are quite common on the Lakes and I have never heard of a chain...

Re: From lake water to salt water questions

VC17 is not suitable for the tropics, but you may be able to get a lot of it off with a solvent. It is basically a very thin layer of copper.

If your Yanmar has a closed loop heat exchanger,...

Re: Blisters - How deep is enough?

It depends on your hull, if it is one inch or so of solid glass then you can afford a to take a little of the laminate off. If it is cored your outer skin may not be very thick.
What I did was using...

Re: Best practice for servicing Lewmar winches

I too recommend servicing them on the boat. I get a wash tub with mineral spirits in it, and put all the parts in there and clean with a cheap paint brush. Then dry and reassemble. Grease and oil as...

Re: Can winch surface be roughened for better traction

I had my aluminum Lewmar 40 winches knurled at a machine shop, worked great and very inexpensive.
Many of my friends have had it done as well.

Re: Canadian Bottom Paint Problem

We have much tougher VOC standards in Canada versus the States so there are many paints etc. that are now not sold here.

A pain the the butt. My deck was painted with Interlux Perfection but when...

Re: Cutting across Lake Ontario

TO to St Catherine's marina is about 51 km or 32 miles, you will only need a couple of quiet hours to cross.
On a reasonably clear day you can see the Toronto skyline from St Catharine's, so you...

Re: How to handle jumping between US and Canada

It is probably simpler to stay on one side or the other. You can do Huron to Erie in a single day, but if you want to site see then you do need to call in when going to the other country.
I have not...

The original poster was last active on CF in 2013 so doubt you will hear back. However some one else may chime in.

Good Luck

Re: halyard advice

Hi, I have Endura braid halyards but I mostly race. I like Endura braid because it has a better "hand" than Warpspeed.

However I think you would be fine with Sta-set X, It has low stretch and a...

Re: Is this a Spi or whisker pole?

That is definitely a spin pole and you have the adjustable mast track for it. You would not have an adjustable track if your boat was not set up for a spinnaker.
It does look pretty heavy duty....

Re: What jib?

Also, remember that if your main and headsail are stretched out, and you are not able to flattened them enough, it will seem like you sails are too big.

I would take a good look at the condition...

Re: Pump out holding tank beneath V birth

I believe that the white hose to the deck fitting is your pump out! Never heard of a hose for flushing water. You flush the system by pumping more water through your head.

Re: Prop spin under sail

I too have a 2GM15F with a Kanzaki transmission and a Gori, two blade, folding prop. I always put it in reverse to stop the spinning.

Does anyone know why Yanmar says to leave it...

Hi, I have a 2GMF that does exactly the same thing. It always starts on the third push.
It is because the starting current for the starter goes through he start button and the undersized wire that...

Re: Lead car re-do

Hi, I am a big fan of Garhauer, their quality/ price point cannot be beat! If you are a racer or performance sailor then yes the EZ system is well worth the cost, in my opinion.

Re: Repainting aluminium mast

I stripped my mast down to bare aluminum then used Awlgrip primer and then one coat of the original Awl grip paint.
I brushed it, the paint self levels beautifully. I just followed their directions....

Re: GFCI tripping on inverter

GFCI receptacles do fail and trip unnecessarily, I would try putting in a new receptacle. They are inexpensive and not hard to install.
Good Luck

Re: Reconfigure this mainsheet block/cam cleat

It might be possible to take out the two (4?) retaining screws and turn the cam cleat assembly over. Then you can pull up to release and pull down to lock in, which would be my preferred way.
