What is this item????

Bought a used boat and found this unusual tool in the galley ... what the heck is it?!?

A nice wood handle, aluminum rod and tube. There is a "window in the tube, plus an angled end on the tube with a small hole init? Trussing tool? Coring tool? Very odd, if you ask me ...

I know the Cruising Community will know the answer!!

I thought you were joking, but there actually is such a thing. Even fancy silver ones for slurpping marrow at elegant tables. [emoji6]

They use that to get a sample the meat before they slaughter the cow...if the meat is not good the cow go back to pasture for 30 days or until the next test.[emoji52]

Re: What is this item????

It's a "larding needle" for pushing strips of lard or bacon fat into/through roasts.

I'd never heard of that before, but it is very clearly what it is. Point to Stu.

Learn something every day! There are several devices posted that Ive never heard of, but the openings at the tip and in the barrel of the OP still look like those on a fid to me.

Re: What is this item????

If I told you what it was for, the SOP would call for termination. Maybe not with extreme prejudice, but with a fair amount of mayhem.
My recommendation - Just stay away from the galley if it is unlit and dodgy guests are aboard.
