Re: Inexpensive Ice Maker ?

I went and checked my records, I bought a 35 lbs ice maker for $185 delivered back in Oct. 2013. Still works great. I have 475w of solar panels that were topping off my 6 x GC battery bank by 10 or 1030 and going into float mode. So instead of wasting prime solar power, I bought the ice maker to use some of that power. I turn it on as soon as I get up and turn it off at sunset. It makes about 20-25 lbs in that period. Most of it I dump into bags in my ice chest, some goes into my drinks for the evening or passed on to friends who missed the ice truck.

I think it's one of the best things I've done with $185.

Re: Inexpensive Ice Maker ?

I bought one here in DK (not at home and can't remember the name). Uses 90 watts at 220VAC so not many amps at all.

first cubes come out after 8 minutes - they're flimsy. thereafter it pops out 9 cubes every 5 minutes (whihc keeps up with my martini consumption) I let it run until it has filled a small bag which fits into the miniscule freezer we have on board.

seem to remember paying something like $175 for it

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

It was a Microlux ML350SS, here's the Ebay link. That vendor no longer has it for sale, but maybe others do. It was actually only $169, but I had to pay CA sales tax, outside of CA it would have only been $169 with the free shipping.

I'm coming up empty on this. It
seems that the product has been
discontinued. Anybody know of
a good replacement?

Here is a different brand of 35 lb ice maker, from Best Buy. They have an excellent return policy which is great to have, you might also be able to buy an extended warranty if you like.
