Two sailors missing in the South Atlantic

Adventure Cruising Club - VOILIER PARADISE

A real tragedy, the skipper seemed very experienced. Hope we can at least learn something from this.

Re: Two sailors missing in the South Atlantic

Six people, including his partner Morgan Ursault-Poupon, who participated in the last Route du Rhum, were on board. We also know that another experienced skipper was on Paradise when two people fell into the water, including Arnaud Dhallenne. The other victim is a woman of Uruguayan nationality. Neither was found.
The skipper, Morgane Ursault-Poupon, is now leading the sailboat to the Malvinas Islands, in search of shelter.

No lifejackets? No survival suits? In 12 foot seas and 80 kts of wind?

I am stricter with my crew than that. We don't pee overboard either.

Re: Two sailors missing in the South Atlantic

Ouch: two missing did not wear a lifejacket or survival suit.

Very sad indeed.

Re: Two sailors missing in the South Atlantic

Hijacking a MOB thread and deaths of two sailors (albeit apparently unprepared for conditions) to make political statements sounds a bit callous.
And the Falklands/Malvinas are a long, long way from Merry England and on Argentina's continental shelf.
Argentina really screwed up in invading to forcibly annex the islands.
Let's focus on what we as international cruisers might learn from this sad occurence. Someday we might be in similar situations.

I wonder if they say that about American Samoa , and Guam
Always good to remember that a foreign force invaded a another countries territory , what ever happened way before our time should be respected or we will all be giving land back to many different people and the World Map will look rather different to it what it is.
Also using the term experienced skippers and no life jackets , harnesses and survival suits does not sit well with me ,
Arrogance of the sea maybe, but we will never know, it is a sad day to lose people on the sea , but they knew the risks and took this onboard when they set out.

Article says 80km/h not 80kt.
It is 43kt
.Still strong wind not to be taken lightly.

Re: Two sailors missing in the South Atlantic

This rescue vessel is the same vessel that found the missing Argentinian sub San Juan. Fine work fellas! Now they are in search of a fleet that was sunk during World War One.

Rest In Peace to the two sailors swept overboard.

Andy, I’m not a Brit but I’m very pro-Brit and Pro-USA, Canada, Aussie, New Zealand etc (except for rugby/cricket!). Your own statement is surely not appropriate and shows bias. I have several Argentinian friends and they accept the islands as The Falklands and being British - just as they have been for centuries.
Sad news regardless.
