Hello from Vancouver BC

Hi everyone!

Michele and Geoff here. We are in the process of purchasing a boat in Ft. Lauderdale then keeping her in Marathon in the Keys. She will be our holiday retreat a couple of times per year until the three kids are big enough and we can retire to become live aboards. Only 9 years to go....

We have only sailed the west coast of BC and are looking forward to sailing around Florida and the Gulf of Mexico. We'll probably be asking a few questions on this forum until we get used to our new adventure zone!

Best to all

Where you are from is quite different. Not really a bad different but actually very different. CF has members in all places so consider this a great place to ask questions. There are no dumb questions but you might get a few dumb answers. Enjoy! In the end it is supposed to be fun.

Welcome G & K,
Heres hoping the 9 years passes swiftly and look forward to seeing you out on the water sometime.

We live in North Vancouver and Qualicum Beach. In about 4 years we are considering selling our NOrth Van home and moving full time into Qualicum (on Vancouver Island). I have already laid the ground work idea (with my wife) of using some of our North Van home money to purchase a used $100,000 - $130,000 sail boat (older but bigger) and leaving it in the Mediterranean so that we can access it about 5 months a year. I figure the flying time isn't much worse than from Vancouver to Florida than to the Med.

Good luck on your idea.

the gift of giving

sounds good and sounds like you've put a lot of thought into it, but have you thought about how good you'd feel enriching someones life by giving them one of your 2 sail boats, showing them how kind the boating community is.. you could give the boat to a family member or a freind or better yet a work collegue, say a work collegue just getting into sailing with asperations of liveaboarding one day.
Just a thought to ponder
