Hello from Nova Scotia

Hello to all,
This is my first post on this forum also. We live on the Cabot Trail just above the Englishtown ferry. Sail the Bras d'Or and surrounding ocean on a 32' Lyle Hess wooden cutter. We are moored in Baddeck in the summer and Dundee (in water) in the winter. Would love to meet cruisers coming to the lake or to the trail.

Now that's a Proper Boat!

Friends who've cruised Nova Scotia have raved about the beautiful scenery and friendly, welcoming people there. I've always wanted to sail to N.S., but the Admiral has vetoed the trip. She prefers warm water.

Steve, Welcome She's a beautiful S/V. We motorcycled around the Cabot Trail a few years back. Beautiful does not describe the scenery. We wore long johns and heavy coats in June so I doubt I'll ever boat in the area.

Indeed, and many an hour I have enjoyed his books and videos. When I became a Canadian citizen I had to change the documentation from US to Canada and couldn't keep her same name as it was already taken here. So being in a very Gaelic community here we searched for Gaelic words and came up with Iolaire which is "eagle" in Gaelic. It was available and we took it. We have eagles flying along the cliff below the house every day so felt it was appropriate. Thanks for the compliment.

We spent last summer in and around Nova Scotia. It was truly one of the world's great cruising grounds. It is hard to decide if we loved the scenery or the people more.

It is a place where the good people still live. When was the last time you were in a new harbor, and total strangers gave you the keys to their truck to go shopping in town?

Totally off topic but a few years ago when we were sailing there spoke to some wild life researchers checking out the eagle nests. Think it was around 400 dog and cat collars found in the nests. Locals blamed the missing on tourists!. Great area. Can you still pick the fresh oysters?

Beauty boat!

You're on the north side I see. Good chance you'll see me in the Strait of Canso at some point this summer. House going up for sale, moving to the southern end of Nova Scotia.

Going to be an interesting solo trip after the last locks on the St. Lawrence.
After years of inland sailing on the Great Lakes it's time to poop or get off the pot!
No idea if next summer I head up your way or look into the Bay of Fundy, so many places, such a short sailing season.
