Consider the surface tension of the water
Surface tension? First time I've heard that come up in discussions of this question.

Surface tension has nothing to do with it. Surface tension can be broken down with ammonia. That’s why it’s in cleaners, or by using rain water. Think water spiders.

Anyway to finish this off; the general rule as all marine architects know,
“If it floats the water displaces the weight of the object.
If it sinks the water displaced the volume of the object.

delmarrey, did you have a typo in there somewhere? You seem to be saying that rainwater doesn't have surface tension.

No. Less water tension. That’s why some cultures/regions like to use rain water to wash clothes. Like in the Philippines or Arizona. Watch water in a zero gravity situation. Check out glacier runoff water.

...for the vaccinated. It remains quite deadly for the un-vaccinated. Even with cases declining Covid is still killing about 2000 people every day in the US alone.

Please do not contaminate the Joke Thread with COVID debates. There are other threads for that.

Ok....
The original question
Boat In a pool (contained body of water
Displacement of boat + rock sets a measured water level
Rock removed from boat sinks to bottom of pool

Boat Displacement now = 1 less Rock weight

However wetted surface area of boat is far larger than the sunken Rock's Displacement area.

So taking into account "surface tension" of boat on top of water.
Does that not have an effect on measured water level change?

Re: The 2021 & 2022 Joke Threads

Although the water spider video was cool I have to say this is the joke thread. Facts do not belong here. The thread was closed earlier due to it taking on a covid funk. I understand political jokes can get our "political" back hair up, but they are jokes and therefor go along with the theme of the JOKE thread. If you post a FACT instead of a JOKE then you become the JOKE. So please try to make us all laugh with you instead of at you.
Did you know that Chuck Norris got Covid? Now the virus has to quarantine for 2 weeks.

Moderator Comment.

Post your jokes here folks, not your arguments about the jokes. If the comments about jokes become even slightly disruptive, the arguments will be deleted without notice or explanation. A few have just been deleted and more should be...

Remember - it's a joke thread, they come in all types and sizes and isn't doesn't matter if you think they are funny or not.

We really want to keep the joke thread going but you have to do your bit as well.

Re: The 2021 & 2022 Joke Threads

so this big strapping cowboy leaves the bar after downing a dozen beers.....
outside the bar, he sees a little girl with a bunch of dollars in her hand..
curious he asks her " where didya git all dem dollars"...
She replies " I take bets".....
Even more curious, the cowboy asks " what kind of bets ?"
She replies " I bet you, I can pee higher than you against that wall, while laying on the ground"
The cowboy thinks...I've got this in the bag and agrees to the bet...

The little girl goes first..drops her drawers, lays on the ground...and pffftttt.....makes it 2 feet up the wall...
The cowboy smirks, lays down on the ground, unzips and is about to the do his thing, when the little girl taps him on the shoulder..." sorry sir, no hands allowed"

Chuck Norris once went to Mars. That is why there are no signs of life on that planet.
