About 40 years ago I was on a Navy ship docked at a base that also was a navy airfield. A couple of the crew, that had been drinking, got into an altercation with some coast guardsmen, eventually following them back to their cutter. When they weren't allowed to board, the broke into a dockside fire station, took an axe and commenced to chop the cutter's lines. On hearing sirens coming, they ran away into the air station.
They knew they were in trouble and were looking for an escape. The brighter one decided he knew how to fly. They got into a C-47 and even managed to start one engine when the shore patrol showed up. Probably saving their lives. They got 2 years each.
